A truly heinous man has doxxed the Cornell victim on X and the comments are predictably vile. Based on countless interviews I’ve done with survivors, the trauma they are subjected to for coming forward is oftentimes even worse than the initial trauma they experienced. There is no real justice system

I'll admit the saddest thing about posting on social media right now is its very likely the only reason I would stop doing it is not because I want to stop. It's because there won't be a platform I want to post on.

I made a skyborne in WoW Forever, and I am only level 7, but I feel like they fashioned this entire story off from the Noldor in the Silmarillion. Like one of your first quests is basically "go do some kinslaying"

I can have just talked to someone 5 seconds ago, and their conversation will not show up in the little DM sidebar list in Slack for me. But someone from half a month ago? Right there at the top. Terrific UI.

Im guessing they think the blow back will be worse if they do ban him and that they can just wait it out for him to stop streaming the game. Which seems like the worse plan for the existing population that would like to actually continue enjoying the game (and paying to do so!)

I'm sorry, people that love summer, I am really enjoying this cold weather. No no, don't ask me how I'll feel in a couple months.

Do we even call it the alt-right anymore, it seems like its just "the right" now. Whatever. He's a terrible person.

Heather Buchel @heather-buchel.com · 26/09/2026

I really hope they do something. The game is such a love letter to the community that actually loves the game and its people and its stories; it would be awful to have it overshadowed by a hate mongering alt-right grifter.

Like some of these editor notes would have caused them to send letters to his publisher at the time urging them to drop him like a rock (since there was no twitter to yap on) if we compare to how they talk about warcrafts writers lmao

030

Heather Buchel @heather-buchel.com · 25/09/2026

Im reading the unfinished tales from tolkien. in it are a lot of notes about discrepancies and outright "retcons" and I wonder if the folks that chastise the warcraft writers for sometimes getting it wrong or changing their direction also think that tolkien should have never been allowed to write

I mean it's cool that someone can be a known far-right troll who routinely advocates violence and sends hate mobs after people but no company that could just ban them from using their service will even consider maybe protecting their players because it might interfere with a bit of money

Unionization is the only thing that's going to remotely have any chance of keeping your 20 year old game around for the next 20 years like you want it to be and guess what many politicians want to gut. Guess which side they will be on.

030

Heather Buchel @heather-buchel.com · 22/09/2026

Someone in chat in WoW Forever yesterday said they should never have to think about politics when gaming and my brother how do you think the people that make your game are ever going to keep being able to make your game if they can't protect themselves? It's extremely political.

So unbelievably jealous of people playing the WoW Forever beta and just like, enjoying the sunsets and hanging out in the world because of the new lighting/fog/water effects. What a little love letter to the world they've created. I don't want to spoil it for the actual release though!

I don't even know what the equivalent feeling for that is for developers coming up now, or maybe they don't even have it. Dev YouTubers that they follow? (there are actually great CSS folks that make youtube content). Asking Claude just doesn't feel like a replacement. idk!

I'm still so grateful and think it's so special we had css-tricks when we did though. As someone who grew up with the web cherishing that part of the stack, it really was just the best.

The css-tricks stuff reminds me of how awful big tech is at longevity and maintenance because they hire weird little psychos that only care about having their constant drip of "make-money machines".

Chrome is so jank. I feel like the capture node screenshot thing just randomly doesn't work for me. Today it was showing the wrong tab/favicon/title for a site I was viewing. (yes I know other browsers exist, I require it for work)

Continuing my descent into relating everything back to the Silmarillion, my partner told me someone was obviously using ChatGPT to reply to messages in Discord and WoW guild chat, and I was like, "that's like what they called Sauron, the abhorred. That is abhorrent behavior"

The hard part is you will inevitably need a button without a border on it, and then you get to play the game of making sure design/engineers know when/when not to use it.

010

Heather Buchel @heather-buchel.com · 11/09/2026

Are you even on a design system team if you're not having yet another discussion about why buttons with borders are good and make people happy
