A draft of an email to the Program and Chair team of the Seattle Worldcon team that reads - Hi Kathy and SunnyJim,
As a former Worldcon volunteer, I understand the desire to search for more ways to work efficiently. There is a lot to do and not enough people to do it.
However, as an artist and a Hugo finalist, I'm honestly pretty gobsmacked that you did this - it's a bad move. ChatGPT is a bad faith tool - it was trained on the works of many of the Hugo finalists without their consent! It's disappointing that your team thought this would be an acceptable or explainable or understandable decision.
This move, and others, makes me feel like your team is disconnected from what the SFF literary community and the SFF creative community want and need out of a Worldcon. If there is too much to do, do less. People will complain at you either way, and as an attendee I'd rather see something smaller done well than a bigger mess that we all have to wade through.
