If you would try to win by abandoning trans people (or any targeted group) you can save this “we need to win” talk; there is no “we.” I am about solidarity, and you have chosen anti-solidarity. You are not any “we” I recognize. You are the enemy I’m trying to defeat. Beating you is how my “we” wins.

We all want women and girls to feel safe. But are we having the right conversations about what puts them in danger? For #BlackHistoryMonth, Saba Ali explores male violence, the risks facing Black, South Asian and trans women, and why women's safety and trans rights are not in opposition.

"For years, trans people have used wards in line with their gender identity, under the NHS’s own guidance – without any harm. The NHS was built on the promise that everyone counts. With this guidance, it has decided that trans people certainly don’t – and some of us will pay for it with our lives."

The new NHS guidance for trans people could put lives at risk
The NHS has decided to make it even worse for trans people – by forcing them to use wards based on their ‘biological sex’.

The UK is working to completely purge trans people from society. They are banning trans people from hospitals, banning their healthcare, banning them from bathrooms, protecting people that will harass them, and making it impossible to exist. This is all happening under Labour.

Today, this week, always: Fight this hate with the power you have, whatever that is. Fight loudly. Work quietly. Do it without credit. Who the fuck cares if it’s helping people? There are a lot of us. We have power when we work together. That’s what they’re afraid of.

I’m a solicitor. I’m doing what I can to stop this and protect people. I’ve not asked for public help because I don’t need it (yet). My law, my expertise? Isn’t grand cases. Others do have those targets. Read their arguments and support them when they make sense to you. I do.

Esto es importante, porque aquí va el dinero, el poder y la influencia política: campañas constantes durante años, manipulación de entidades públicas para que dejen de protegernos, y ahora efectos materiales sobre nuestras vidas diarias, que nos excluyen y criminalizan.

The NHS's revised guidance on single-sex wards is cruel, unworkable and LGBTIQA+ Greens calls on Labour to withdraw it and reform the Equality Act.
The NHS revised guidance does not offer privacy, dignity or safety to trans people.
Placing trans people on the incorrect “same-sex” hospital wards by default is wrong and unworkable, which is why it also states exceptions for clinical need and a mention of alternative provision.
This is a continuation of the incomprehensible interpretation of the Equality Act 2010 that the supreme court ruled for. We call on the Labour government to withdraw this guidance and reform the Equality Act to end the policing of trans people in single gendered spaces.

I have already heard from trans constituents who are avoiding essential NHS screening and treatment for fear of being treated without respect and dignity. Ministers told me: “the revised guidance will support the privacy, dignity and safety of all patients” How exactly does this do that?

Yes, the new NHSE guidance is bad but does not bind HCPs to admitting trans patients to wards for asab. It instead posits that as the policy default, but allows derogations from that where it’s not ‘clinically appropriate’. In reality it hands far too much power and confusion to individual HCPs
