RAF Fairford has the long runway needed for US B-1 and B-52 bombers to launch. It has played a vital role in the American bombardment of Iran, allowing a much shorter flight time to the country than from bases in the US.

The war, which the US and Israel launched in February, has upended global energy markets and strained relations between Washington and its allies. Iran has responded to strikes in recent months by launching drone attacks across the Gulf.

Trump on Monday warned Iran that it would “suffer greatly” if it had deployed drones in the UK.

I haven’t seen too much about it yet but the RAF Fairford thing strikes me as interesting because it shows how jumpy the USA has become. One of the real concerns with their expensive aircraft is being destroyed on the ground. It seems like any whiff of that has them worried.

1. This is just primer, rougly applied. It approximates my shadow colors. The light is set above and to the front and I use that for lighting reference.
2. Very roughly blocking out the main light and shadow areas.
3. A bit more work on the skin. Nothing is done except for the eyes which I like to finish first because it's very messy for the area around them. At this point I realized that I don't want to paint the metal tips on the boots so I decided to shave them off. Really wish I had done that before painting.
4. I've done more work all around but nothing is really complete. At this point, I find it easier to take this photo and edit it on my computer to quickly try out the next steps. This is great for me because I can try many things in a relatively short amout of time.
5. Almost done. I ended up switching the light direction on the axe blade and kept it darker as the front side is angled slightly downwards.
6. Done and varnished. The light on the leg is weaker because of the matte finish. I intentionally wanted to suggest a matte surface for the fabrics, but now I'm thinking it would have looked better with a highlight.
