33 years ago today, the Stranger stepped onto the dock of Myst Island for the first time. We can still hear the water splashing against the pilings.
The dock of Myst Island from the original version of the game. A wooden dock ends at a spiral staircase that leads up to giant gears on a hillside. A ship is sunk in the water on the right, and parts of buildings are visible on the left.

Yes it could be argued that keeping up with world events is important but alternatively can I interest you in hugging an ancient mossy boulder that looks like a face and quietly listening while it tells you stories from centuries cloaked in mist.
A lovely mossy boulder with a face. I walked past this venerable stone gentleman on Dartmoor when I was beginning to write my first novel, Villager, and it whispered all 104,000 words of the book to me. So now I have to pay it all of my royalties. Unfortunately my ex-publisher stopped paying me royalties last year. Understandable, the boulder was not happy. But now I have a new publisher and the book has been republished. So remember if you purchase a copy you will be helping a boulder to eat, pay the rent on his riverside moss garden, and feed his boulder family.

Hit 90 recorded workouts today and am creeping toward a 100lb squat. I think I finally have the form dialed in, I made friends with bench press at long last and found a good substitute for bent-over rows. Feels so fucking good to be strong.

A manuscript idea leapt into my brain on my old arthritic dog's interminable meander this morning. Unfortunately it is September and I have a toddler so the chances of it surviving the Endless Winter Ick are slim.

Like any Parasite -

The Mind is fat -

But if the Heart omit
Emaciate the Wit -
The Aliment of it
So absolute.

Look, you don't even have to wear em *all* the time in *all* spaces to protect yourself and your community! Mask up when you're feeling germy, or when risk tolerance is lower for you or the people around you. Harm reduction doesn't require perfect adherence to reduce harm.

Librarians! Zine-Makers! This new Temporary Services zine (made with @doormouse12.bsky.social) is for you! We interviewed 4 public librarians that maintain zine collections and the result is a beautiful 44 page booklet. See and learn how they do it! $10.00 (or $3.00 PDF) from www.halfletterpress.com
From the front and back cover of the booklet:

Public Librarians Discuss Zine Collections

We asked librarians at four public libraries to talk about their library’s zine collection. What advice can they share with zine makers that want to get their work into a public library, or librarians that want to start a collection at their library? Was it hard to convince others that zines are a resource that the library should collect? What collecting models did they follow? How did they build the collection?

Interviewees:

Tim Devin / Somerville Public Library
 (Somerville, MA)
Angi Brzycki & Ziba Pérez /
Los Angeles Public Library
(Los Angeles, CA)
Alicia Tate / Multnomah County Library
(Portland, OR)
Alina Josan / The Free Library of Philadelphia (Philadelphia, PA)

From Noah Falck's "Exclusions" (Tupelo Press, 2020) for #smallpoemsunday cc: @tomsnarsky.bsky.social
Poem Excluding City, a poem by Noah Falck:

The sky was a concussion of clouds
and notorious for dropping everything
at a moment’s notice. And the fog,
how it removed everything and then it didn’t.
People gathered in the distance and made history
until it hurt. They devoured field after field
with bad ideas and took pride in the
groomed ruins. It was never a photo
opportunity. The mood when the forest
met the asphalt: Too little, too late.

Through working on this and other series, I've realized that there are so many ways of being wrong and/or changing your mind—there's "the tweaking revision" along the lines of But no, that's not quite right...; "the doubting revision" as in Am I remembering that correctly?; "the rephrasing revision" :
Let me put that another way...; "the new evidence revision": And yet I've recently learned...; "the alternative revision": Or perhaps it's that... and, tailor made for poetry, "the revising revision": Maybe that last line should have been... Self-correction turns out to be an extremely rich mine.

Because I am helpless against ideas for ambitious projects I will inevitably abandon, thinking of working down my TBR poetry pile with a little blurb, one book per month (it takes me a long time to get through a collection). I just picked up "Say Fire" by Selma Asotić so perhaps I will start there.

For when you reach rock bottom

You have survived everything you have been through, and you will survive this too. Stay for the person you will become. You are more than a bad day, or week, or month, or year, or even decade. You are a future of multifarious possibility. You are another self at a point in future time looking back in gratitude that this lost and former you held on. Stay.

Hi NAWPsters! How was your summer? I see you're here, in the apocalyptic wastelands of social media, so how about you share a poem you read & liked this summer?
So, it's a screencap of the Care Bears. It says "Sharing is caring" and the Care Bears picture bellies are shooting rainbows. I never really knew anything about the Care Bears, but I assume that makes sense to the Care Bears hive. Anyway, I added the NAWP ostrich's head to the graphic too because why not.

“I am planning a lesson on Sappho knowing I can get gunned down in the middle of a fragment” SG Huerta ( @sgpoet.bsky.social ) from their books Burns
Texan Sonnet
I am planning a lesson on Sappho knowing I can get gunned down in the middle of a fragment or fired for the confusion of my manwomanboygirl body or ravaged by a virus until my brain and lungs are once again too foggy for poems.

I finally started binding, loving it, and it's 100 degrees in Texas. Risk: heatstroke. Risk: dysphoria. Risk: death.
My besties are waiting at the bear bar for trivia but I am too scared to leave my house with my body.

I don't struggle to love myself, not now.
I struggle to live in this great state.

I also really like and resonate with @rjaurand.bsky.social's excellent answer to this question. In the same vein, the magic of writing is to reach across miles and years and hand a stranger a feeling in a jar. It's a way of saying, "Hello, did you feel this? I felt it, too. You and I are not alone."

On the one hand, someone gets 1000 demerits for writing in a library book. On the other, it's sweet feeling as though I'm having a little one-sided conversation with another reader.
