The newest version of @zotero.org lets you edit multiple items at once. I will probably use this most often for changing titles to sentence case quite a bit. They'll still need cleanup for subtitles, but this better than working individually. #acwri

Hi #qualitative folks. This is for a library organization, but is open to anyone. #qual #caqdas #qdas 📚 This is not a "how to ai" for qualitative research, but thinking through what we consider 'quality' as more folks take up genAI tools for analyzing data.

I'm excited to be guest editing an upcoming special issue for Qualitative Research in Communication Differences and Disorders. 📝Seeking #qualitative research exploring novel communication intervention such as arts-based or mind-body approaches. Details➡️ utppublishing.com/journals/qrc... #SLPeeps
Special Issue Title: Creativity, the Arts, and Holistic Approaches: Highlighting Innovation in Clinical Practice

Many disciplines that work with individuals with communication disabilities continue to emphasize traditional models of care, focusing on speech, language, and hearing deficits while giving comparatively little attention to the individual's broader experiences, goals, and well-being. This special issue aims to push the limits of how we define clinical practice by acknowledging that the scope of human communication is vast and cannot be complete without integration of those aspects of humanity that make us whole.

In this issue, we seek submissions that highlight creative interventions across populations and settings, emphasizing how authentic forms of human expression, including multiple modalities, can enhance engagement, support expression and meaning making, and provide meaningful opportunities for individuals to communicate and connect. Any submission that explores an intervention or program demonstrating creativity, novelty, or innovation will be considered. Interventions or programs can include unique clinical techniques, such as infusing the arts into intervention, promoting expression and engagement within the real world in innovative ways, mind-body approaches, among others.

We seek contributions covering a broad range of activities, contexts, and perspectives that address the opportunities for inclusion and social participation afforded by such approaches and that highlight the voices of various involved individuals such as participants, families, clinicians, and interprofessional collaborators among others. Submissions should utilize qualitative methodologies to provide insight into perspectives or experiences related to these types of interventions or programs. Studies that evoke the spark and humanity that creative engagement brings to human interaction are encouraged.

Submissions due: January 15th, 2027

LOL. From 1995.
Media accounts in the United States usually describe the value of current technologies in terms of their potential capabili-ties. They often exaggerate their level of development, the quality of product engineering, and the extent to which they have been adopted. They have also exaggerated the attributes of the few commercial applications that do exist by suggesting that these systems
"think" like people rather than simply performing the symbolic manipulations on formal representations of the tasks usually performed by people. The American press often promotes Al in sensationalist terms (cf. "Artificial Intelligence Is Here," 1984; Apple-gate and Day 1984). A representative example appeared on the cover of the February 15, 1988 issue of Insight on the News. It heralded its cover story about AI with: "See machines think. Think, machine, think. The world of artificial intelligence." More accurate stories sometimes appear in magazines and newspapers, but they are less common than the sensationalized stories. Despite sensational claims in the press, none of the higher performance AI systems, with the exception of a particular checkers-playing pro-gram, has "learned" to modify its behavior, let alone learn "the way that humans do."

Last month two library workers reached out to Public Collectors to ask about making a booklet version of Fobazi Ettarh's essay "Vocational Awe and Librarianship: The Lies We Tell Ourselves" for a Celebration of Life event. We did, and it is now available for all: halfletterpress.com/vocational-a...
This booklet is a standalone print publication of Fobazi Ettarh’s essay, in which she defined vocational awe as the ideas, values, and assumptions librarians have about themselves and the profession that result in notions that libraries are inherently good and sacred, and therefore beyond critique. Fobazi first presented on vocational awe at the Identity, Agency, and Culture in Academic Libraries Conference in 2017. Later on, she fleshed out the idea into this essay, which first appeared in the journal In the Library with the Lead Pipe on January 10, 2018. It sparked immediate rippling conversations about dynamics of systemic underresourcing, undercompensation, job creep, and exploitation across the library profession. It was cited more than 500 times in her lifetime, and she presented dozens of invited presentations and keynotes on it. In 2020, she was named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker; true to her own values, she voluntarily revoked the award to protest Library Journal’s awarding of a Library of the Year that had been widely protested for hosting an event with a virulently anti-trans organization earlier in the year. In this time, public scholars and intellectuals in fields such as social work, teaching, nursing, and technology began to engage with vocational awe, including Cory Doctorow in Enshittification, Anne Helen Petersen in Culture Study, Simone Stolzoff in The Good Enough Job, and more. At the time of her passing in January 2026, Fobazi was a PhD student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, furthering her research on vocational awe across domains, with a specific focus on tech work. May her memory politicize us all.

— Anastasia Chiu

The proposal to publish this text as a booklet came from library workers Mimosa Shah and Jorge López-McKnight. With the cooperation of Fobazi’s widow Elena Maris, Public Collectors has designed, printed and published this essay for that celebration, as well as more widespread readership.

Final thoughts on data accessibility and accessibility work in repositories. Presentation at #IASSIST2026 from a @rdapassociation.bsky.social working group. Draft report: osf.io/uydpe/files/...
Final Thoughts:
- Accessibility is a necessity for open, equitable access to data
- Strive for born-accessible workflows - not accessibility as an afterthought
- Incorporate and promote a born-accessible approach throughout the research data lifecycle
- Accessibility is not a one size fits all approach
