Medovyk: Ukrainian honey cake. A sweet layered cake made with honey and sour cream. The taste reminds me a bit of graham crackers (for you Americans). Hi guys, coming off of a period of fun times with migraines and generalised burnout... At long last, here's an old woodblock illustration of a witch for you, being visited by the Devil! #WitchSky #Art #ArtHistory #illustration Source in comment⬇️
An early modern woodblock print illustration of a witch doing some sort of task by her fireplace, while the Devil in the form of a bovine figure watches from the list. The inside of the house is rather nice: black and white tile floor, wooden beam ceiling, sideboard with plates and carved chair, and a lead-paned window.

Burne-Jones meant to depict her as a villain, but in one version of the Arthurian legend, the beautiful young sorceress Vivien imprisoned old Merlin in a tree after he repeatedly pestered her to be his lover and refused to take her repeated no's as an answer. #WitchSky #ArtHistory #art
The Arthurian sorceress, Vivien, holds a magic book and is turning to look at the elderly wizard, Merlin, who is lounging behind her. She is just about to encase him in the hawthorn tree he is lying on. In one version of the legend, he repeatedly harassed her to be his lover despite the fact that she refused him multiple times. At her wits end, she told him she would comply if he taught her all of his magic. Once he did, she turned the tables on him in order to get away.

I am loving the woodblock illustrations in this book... Accused witch, Elizabeth Styles, receiving her mark from the Devil, after signing his paper (he also appeared to her as a fly, as pictured here). #WitchSky #art #illustration #ArtHistory Image source in comment ⬇️
An early 18th-century woodblock illustration of a woman in the interior of a house, with a rather nice black and white tile floor. The Devil, in the form of a hybrid man (with horns, goat ears, bat wings, bird feet, and a barbed reptilian tail) is holding her hand to put his mark on it. She has her other hand on her hip. A fly (another form the Devil took to visit her) buzzes near her head).

Witch fiction: The House with Chicken Legs, by Sophie Anderson. A unique take on Baba Yaga folktales: Marinka is Baba Yaga's granddaughter and mentee. Baba guides the dead to the afterlife, but Marinka wants to live a normal human life. The sentient house is a wonderful character #WitchSky #BookSky
The cover of The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson. On a purple background, a girl stands in front of a fence made from human bones and skulls. Baba Yaga's chicken-legged, wooden hut strides above the title. Around the frame is a forest of evergreens and plants. In the book, the bone fence with glowing eye sockets is important for guiding the dead to Baba Yaga and her services in helping them cross over, while warning away the living.
