Public executions were not abolished out of tenderness towards the criminal. They were abolished because of the effect on the people watching, and the dangers of making human death a source of commercial entertainment. Here's Charles Dickens in The Times, after witnessing an execution in 1849.
"I have seen, habitually, some of the worst sources of general contamination and corruption in this country, and I think there are not many phases of London life that could surprise me. I am solemnly convinced that nothing that ingenuity could devise to be done in this city, in the same compass of time, could work such ruin as one public execution, and I stand astounded and appalled by the wickedness it exhibits. I do not believe that any community can prosper where such a scene of horror and demoralization as was enacted this morning outside Horsemonger Lane Gaol is presented at the very doors of good citizens, and is passed by, unknown or forgotten. And when in our prayers and thanksgivings for the season we are humbly expressing before God our desire to remove the moral evils of the land, I would ask your readers to consider whether it is not a time to think of this one, and to root it out.

I am, Sir, your faithful Servant.
Charles Dickens".

While people are talking X, let me talk about X OFF. Two big ideas: 1. Get everyone possible off of X, especially for the news (at least) until every vote is counted 2. Tell your elected reps and candidates to stop sending people there and go X last (at least)

Until every vote is counted, get your news somewhere other than X, and ask the people running for office to publish it somewhere else too.

It seems that publishers can ask for their game to rightfully be taken down. “Aviary” / Wingspan has already been taken down. Please contact the proper publishers to request their games to be taken down. We’ll also need help identifying all of the games so the correct people can be informed.

Did you know that you can cover solo games (card, board, RPGs) without (1) making an excuse why it’s okay to play a game solo and (2) playing it off as if it’s just a silly thing because you “have no friends.” Solo gaming has been, and will continue to be, legitimate. It’s 2026, y’all.

I just want to express how annoying it is on Etsy to try and find handmade items, especially a shirt that was illustrated or printed by an artist. Many shirts listed as "linocut" in most cases aren't actually hand printed. It's so exhausting and I'm so upset for artists who try and sell on there.

I deleted the original post because it quoted something I saw was deleted (though I can still see it now, so??) but whatever, it's in response to this: The "something" that is happening is propaganda designed to demolish public education.
Bluesky user posts "something's happening" and an image from X the everything ap from a bluecheck user posing as a high school kid, which reads

@Oz_Zimmerman I am a 15-year-old freshman and my school gave us 5 days to teach ourselves an entire AP unit with zero lectures and no study guide. The challenge is called "Learning to Learn." Instead of waiting for a teacher to hand out chapter questions, we had to pull the official AP syllabus, use AI to break down the hardest concepts, and build our own master study system from scratch. By Friday afternoon we had to sit down and take the official AP exam to prove we could score a 5 on our own. Most schools test how well you remember what someone told you on Tuesday. When you know how to build your own syllabus and teach yourself college material, you realize traditional classes just move too slow. @Alphaschool

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,
