From our FirstView: "Democratic Accountability with Citizen Coproduction" by Jie Ma, @keithschnak.bsky.social, and @ianrturner.bsky.social. buff.ly/QgJ8hoR
APSR abstract for "Democratic Accountability with Citizen Coproduction," by Jie Ma, Keith E. Schnakenberg, and Ian R. Turner, Modeling policies requiring citizen coproduction, the authors show low coproduction muddies voters' attribution of blame, and incumbents anticipate this by sometimes avoiding reforms when more likely to succeed. Full abstract is available in linked article.

The correct martini is 2 to 1 gin and dry vermouth, couple dashes of orange bitters, stirred, with a twist.

I asked Claude to asses this prompt
Overall assessment
The prompt is well-intentioned and correctly diagnoses sycophancy as a primary failure mode. The anti-sycophancy instructions are its best feature. But it also layers on the expert persona, the length-maximization instruction, and the unexecutable verification commands — all of which push in the direction of confident, fluent, detailed output, which is exactly the texture hallucinations have. The prompt essentially asks the model to behave like a supremely confident expert while simultaneously being perfectly calibrated. Those goals are in direct tension, and in practice the confidence will win out over the calibration on specific factual claims, which is where it matters most.

So I told copilot it was a Nobel prize winning economist, and that I wanted it to explain philosophical skepticism. It did what I would expect a real economist to do, which is misunderstand the point of skepticism and frame it as a problem that Bayesianism solves.

It's Pancake Day! Time to EAT PANCAKES in HONOR OF MACHIAVELLI! What do pancakes have to do with the founder of modern political science? Our boy Nick was obsessed with pancakes! & wrote about them at length in his "Art of War." Why pancakes? He'd been studying the ancients of course! 1/?
Portrait of Machiavelli, wearing his little black hat and looking like a sweetie pie (this one is less reproduced than the one where he's in red and looks sinister, since people prefer to remember Machiavelli the schemer not Machiavelli the pancake nerd!
