Lots of interest in the proposed Haddenham and Thame Greenway at Thame Community Market on Tuesday 18 August. Many people asking why it is taking so long after decades of campaigning. On display was a map of Thame showing less polluted routes to Thame schools, developed with help of Thame schools.

Is “pragmatic” the new, “grown up” word? Andy, there’s nothing “pragmatic” about drilling for more oil & gas - to even consider it with the planet literally on fire is total madness. How many times must we say it will do nothing for energy bills or security? It would be an act of utter recklessness

From the FT: "the two big parties are being replaced" Now's a great time: join.greenparty.org.uk
Stephen Bush: In many ways, the results so far are exactly what we’d expect. Labour has lost around 75 per cent of their council seats at by-elections for the past year and they are losing around that amount.
Ditto, the Conservatives, who have far fewer seats to defend, are losing theirs at a similar rate in per cent terms.
There are some exceptional results for the two thus far: Labour have held Hammersmith and Fulham, while the Conservatives are now the largest party in Wandsworth again.
But what unites essentially all the remaining places where what we used to call the traditional big two parties are now winning is that they are, well, a bit odd.
They are places that, for whatever reason, are particularly inhospitable to the Greens or to Nigel Farage, or where the incumbent council is particularly well run.
The problem for both is that the “normal” result in these local elections is one in which they are simply replaced: by the Greens, Liberal Democrats or Reform in the case of Labour, or by Reform or the Liberal Democrats in the case of the Conservatives.
