it's good to see this laid out clearly, but i'm once again going to point to Peter Naur's 1985 essay "Programming as Theory Building"

The present discussion is a contribution to the understanding of what programming is. It suggests that programming properly should be regarded as an activity by which the programmers form or achieve a certain kind of insight, a theory, of the matters at hand. This suggestion is in contrast to what appears to be a more common notion, that programming should be regarded as a production of a program and certain other texts.

An update on this post from yesterday (Wed, 10/07): the @nytimes.com has updated their report, now adding "though some experts have cast doubt on that account", with a link to Hannah Barker's paper that I had flagged. "Some experts"! There's not a medieval historian who disagrees. Anyway, progress.

We have like seventy years of data on fluoridation, and it's pretty solid, across multiple nations All of this, and I grew up on a well, with no added fluoride, though our well water already had elevated levels from the local rock

No, fluoride in your mouth makes your teeth less soluble in the acids that are created by bacteria, and encourages growth of crystals that can repair damage Chlorine is what we often put in water to clean it, killing bacteria that could put you in the hospital
