While Fox News hasn't released an official statement yet on Trump's press ban, and the network continues to give scant on-air coverage of it, Jacqui Heinrich -- the current WHCA president -- brought on her predecessor Wijia Jiang to denounce the president's actions against CNN, MSNOW and Politico.

So I think we have to be very clear about what this is and is not. This is not a tantrum by three media outlets who are upset because they can't get into the White House or the Oval Office. This is a serious concern for the public, because an attack on one outlet is an attack on everyone, no matter where that outlet falls on the political spectrum. It is limiting the amount of information that reporters inside can... Gather, can excavate, to give back to the public so that people at home can make informed decisions, especially during an election year. So I understand when people point at journalists and say, well, you know, it's not your right to be inside the White House. But the problem, as Jonathan just addressed, is that once you open up that access for any news outlet, you can't take it away just because you don't like what they are saying.

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES:

Let's be very clear, it is an absolute privilege to cover the White House and the president, and we don't take that for granted. But when you start selecting who's allowed to do that, the viewpoint shrinks, and it doesn't represent the public. And that's what makes America so amazing, the best country in the world, that we can have these differing viewpoints, that we disagree, that we bring... Different perspectives and different reporting to the table and allow people who are watching it and reading it decide for themselves. And so that's why it matters so much.

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF INDEPENDENT PRESS COVERAGE:

America cannot have state TV. That's what makes America America. That's why we need independent coverage. And that's why this press pull system has been set up for so long and why it works. Because you need independent actors to be able to be the observers. And if the government ifos only showing you what it wants, then you have to question, what are we missing? And that what the pool, that's what these outlets bring to the table.
