In the space of 1 yr, the number of Americans who think AI will do more to hurt rather than help the environment rose 14 percentage points We have been focusing on critiquing the tech industry's claims of a 'net benefit' for a while now, and it's really nice to see a strong shift in public opinion
Survey stacked bars comparing 2025 and 2026 responses on whether AI in the next 10 years will do "more to hurt," "more to help," "not make much difference," or "not sure" for society, the U.S. economy, the environment, and you personally, showing increased "more to hurt" shares in 2026.News article headlined "Claims that AI can help fix climate dismissed as greenwashing," with a subheading about industry "diversionary" tactics, above an illustration of a smartphone chatbot icon and glowing speech bubbles symbolizing AI-driven conversation and environmental debate.
