It used to annoy me then as much as it does now, but I don’t think it was done frequently. Aah, Safeway in Shambles Square, I remember it well. There was also a decent food shop in the basement of Debenhams, called Caters I think. Both were good for lunchtime or post-work food shopping.

I’ve had mine for five years and they’ve made a big difference to my life. Initially there was certainly an ‘overload’ factor, everything seemed to sound like crisp packets (others have said the same thing), but that soon wore off. I do tend to switch them off in windy conditions, when cycling etc

I believe it’s generally recognised that uncorrected hearing loss can lead to social isolation. As well as simply ‘missing things’, the extra effort required to follow and become involved in interactions can discourage participation in them. Isolation is thought to be a factor in cognitive decline.

Everyone believed it was true, when someone says that they have cancer you just don’t query it, and there were no signs that it wasn’t true. Until a medic friend suggested that the groundbreaking treatment they claimed to be getting didn’t exist, then other scraps of evidence started to surface.
