This IBM MDA video card is giving me some "heck"! 🤐Computer POSTs 1 long and 2 short without the video card but when you insert the card, no POST, no display. So I've gone down a lot of rabbit 🐇 holes today.

Now, I have printed all 1U #keycaps of the #C64 #keyboard with #dyeSublimation. After I started holding them with pliers, I have applied more pressure and did not screw up any.

The circuit board of a nice Commodore 64 I picked up recently. Needs a new SID sound chip. Will likely do a mod to improve the video as this is an older VIC-II. Otherwise in good working order! #commodore #c64

Dirty IBM 5150 power supply. Cleaned as well as I could and recapped, except for those two 200V 3300uF .. they tested better than those I was going to replace them with.

Clean up the motherboard, cards, the two floppy drives and recapped the power supply. Tested the power supply connected to the motherboard .. no magic smoke!! All chips on the MB are cool except for the D8284A (U11) .. that chip is hot .. is that supposed to be hot? Anyone know?

Magic, actual computer magic. I've come to appreciate the C64 I bought last summer came with a modern Epyx Fastload cartridge; C64 floppy disk loading is sloooow! How much the cart accelerates it still feels like sorcery to me. And I'm sure it especially did back in 1984/5.

My Commodore 1084 (D) had the switch fail. It's a slightly different type than what's in most of the other monitors I have but luckily I'd previously ordered some "wrong" ones from Aliexpress that worked well enough by just bolting it in First pic is original and second pic is the replacement.

That reminds me .. I still have that drive that I have to whack with a screwdriver. I still have to whack it to get it to spin (or something) before it will start up .. once started, it works fine but don't turn that machine off. It has been retired for years now. Resting in a box.
