My family owned a small painting and decorating business in Belfast, right by the docks. They actually worked on the Cunard line ships among others. They were Anglican but converted to Catholicism because of how the Orange were treating them. So I wholeheartedly support the Garvaghy Road blockade

Emily Haines told the story of Anthems. I have my own. It reminds me of short but essential cold winter drives to and from my best friend’s house (it was the length of Anthems). It reminds me of my hometown. It reminds me that music is my greatest love and healer, and it is time I make more of it.

It’s my second last night in Berlin and seeing Broken Social Scene, Metric and Stars just made life feel wonderful. BSS in particular. I had tears streaming down my face watching Anthems, it’s one of those songs that is completely imprinted on my heart. I am so grateful for this experience.

Find it very odd when people have a go at people for protesting. Like yea, the Kennedy Centre crowd is older, and probably in a higher socio-economic bracket, but at least they’re fucking doing something. The arts and their history must be saved, and that can co-exist with other actions.
