Allowing this dead-company-walking to be bailed out again, instead of taking it into Special Administration and then permanent public ownership, would be a disgrace and a betrayal by the Andy Burnham government Enough is enough.
Graphic with quote from Feargal Sharkey that says "“Thames Water is due to run out of money (again) over the next few weeks. A year and half ago, it was given a £3 billion bailout. Now it is asking for another 2.4 billion. We really are being taken for mugs”

We spent all day trying to figure out the nature of Katie Zacharia's relationship to an AI mining company in Canada — and what the hell was up with said company— and then, she was just, fired (blog with @timmarchman.bsky.social) www.wired.com/story/katie-...

Katie Zacharia Was Linked to an AI Rare-Earths Startup. It’s Even Weirder Than It Sounds
The short-lived White House press secretary was listed as an adviser to a Kristi Noem-linked company that aims to use AI for mining. Both the company and she say she never worked there.

Cases started appearing in May, according to the article’s graphic. CDC is only now sending one person to PA to help? One epidemiologist? After six deaths and thousands of cases?

Merriam Webster out here fighting for its life
Merriam-Webster & @Merriam..•18h
'Goodbye' is an alteration of "God be with you."

Sean Kress• @SKress7514 • 16h
Do you have evidence to back this up? If so can you explain what "good night" , "good
morning" and "good evening" are alterations of?

Merriam-Webster & @Merriam..•15h
whatSean Kress & @SKress7514 • 14h
I was genuinely asking the question because the only thing I find on the internet is that it is basically a slur from the original.... I assumed there was a better explanation for it than that as it seems a little unlikely given the good night, good morning etc haven't been slurred into something else too. Sorry if you saw that as offensive.

Merriam-Webster @ @Merriam...•14h S
It is not related to 'good night/ day/morning.'
The 'good' in those do not come from 'God.'Sean Kress @ @SKress7514 • 14h
So the internet suggestion this it is just a slur is what you are basing that on too then?

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Merriam-Webster's etymology follows established linguistic scholarship, not unverified internet suggestions of a "slur."
"Goodbye" is an alteration of "God be with you"; "good" in greetings like "good morning" has separate origins unrelated to "God."

Her illness started with Covid, and despite her incredible, international-competition level fitness at the time. I don’t know who exactly would have to get this for healthy people to understand that when they get Covid, which they will continue to get, they are spinning a chamber and firing the gun.

I'm sorry, what? Why would I be disappointed by this? We don't need more lanes on that road. We need more trains on that line, we need a continuous direct segregated cycle route and we need a rapid public transit system. Expanding trunk roads never helps.

Nobody will be made safer, and nobody will feel more respected, as a result of the transphobic NHS stance on placing trans folk according to assigned sex at birth. It's not even just a mistake, it is an aggressive policy with the intent of causing harm.

Private equity has hollowed-out high streets. Famous names, jobs, supply chains destroyed. Aided by the state: PE gets tax relief on interest payments. No tax on dividends paid to owners holed up in tax havens. No inquiry into serial bankruptcies. It is gangster capitalism. archive.ph/zisBU

Bordetella is both highly fastidious and extremely sensitive to chlorine. So it doesn't have an environmental reservoir in the pool soup, and the chlorine kills it fast. Even the higher end of chlorine concentration in US tap water can stop it...

One common example is that people often end up with both freehold and leaseholds on homes that specifically preclude livestock, but that can't supercede the allotment act 1950 that in almost all cases permits this. It is surprisingly hard to sign away your rights...

I see them quite often here, both on the little lakes on the Science Park and up in Milton just over the A14. Lovely birds, most often just a flash of blue as the fly by making their distinctive peeping call at us.

It isn't easy to find out. Go on, ring some rando on a customer service line and ask for the companies motor insurance details. I'll wait. This is why an offence is committed if the correct details aren't share at the scene.

...you can't just point at "TESCO" or whatever written on the side of a van, and for good reasons the 1988 act of parliament specifies that you've got to stop and exchange details. You don't get to unilaterally decide you don't have to obey that.

Section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. If you aren't aware of your duties in the event of a road traffic accident then do look it up - because you can't just find a registered owner of a vehicle and even if you could you don't automatically have contact details

You're required, by law, to give your name and address, and the name and address of the owner of the vehicle if different, to people who can reasomably need them, after an RTA. Just the number doesn't satisfy legal requirements here.

Cab Davidson @gnomeicide.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
...and even if they get the rental cars company name, that doesn't satisfy the law as it applies to sharing information at the scene of the accident. You're ok with that?
100 0
Cab Davidson @gnomeicide.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
Speeding is not the same as having an accident. If you have an accident in the rental car and don't stop at the scene to exchange details without very good reason you've committed an offence. Someone else in an accident doesn't magically get the rental or autonomous cars owners details...

Cab Davidson @gnomeicide.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
I don't see you've any other option, but if you've been hit by a car on your bike and try to report that to the cops, that's an uphill fight. Been there. And I wonder, who has committed the offence of not stopping at the scene in this scenario?
000 0
Cab Davidson @gnomeicide.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
How? You haven't got their address, you haven't got their insurance details or the name of the person driving, you haven't even got a way of contacting the responsible person or even their name.
100 0
Cab Davidson @gnomeicide.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
In the scenario where the driver leaves without exchanging details, then they've committed a criminal offence. Who has done so if the autonomous vehicle doesn't have a mechanism to do so?
100 0
Cab Davidson @gnomeicide.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
Go on then. The law is you have to exchange details as decribed with the other person in the collision. Whats the procedure whereby a self drive does this?
