The chart's 2026 figure of $1,300/hour works out to about $2.7M a year. That only matches the CEOs of the biggest listed companies, not upper management in general. No official NZ series tracks mid-level managers back to 1970. The chart gives no source for it. ... Share truth, not lies.

1975 to 1980: the chart shows a drop from $5.50 to $5.20. In reality nominal wages rose fast in that high-inflation period: the average weekly wage rose to $157 by 1979.

newsroom.co.nz/2026/09/14/n... says Auckland council is appealing central government's fast-tracked approval to develop 3854 houses on a flood plain. At the same time, National candidate said poor planning is exacerbating climate related disasters. 🤔 newsroom.co.nz/2026/09/14/n...
Analysis: As a newly appointed High Court judge, Justice Rachel Sussock will no doubt want to enforce her authority on the hearing that begins before her this morning. Because otherwise, Auckland Council’s appeal against the fast-track approval for developer Chris Meehan’s contentious Sunfield community in south Auckland could spiral off in all kinds of directions.

In what could be an awkwardly timed test challenge to the housing projects being shovelled through the Government’s new centralised consenting regime, the council is appealing the decision to approve the 3854 new homes proposed to be built on a flood-plain near Takanini.

It will be watched closely by councils around the country, and also by parties contesting November’s national election – because this goes to the heart of the Government’s abandonment of all pretence of localisation. National was elected on a policy of giving back voice to local communities; the opposite has been true. After the interview was published this morning, Budd shared it on his Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.

Several hours later, he posted again to claim his comments had been taken out of context, saying: “Rest assured, I do believe that climate change is manmade.”

“My comments were specific to what I learned at Harvard’s Real Estate Management Program. There, I learned that poor urban planning is exacerbating climate related disasters. We have evidence of this here in NZ specifically.

“My background is in real estate and that is the lens I was bringing to the conversation. Of course, higher emissions worldwide are causing more climate disasters. You only need to look at our own backyard to notice that.”

Asked by Newsroom about Budd’s comments, Luxon said he had not seen the detailed remarks but welcomed the Whangārei candidate’s clarification.
