One of the most dialectically astute aspects of the narrative shows how new print technologies improve mass literacy & simultaneously make limited proficiencies more visible. As more people enter public discourse, it seems as though literacy is eroding, but the opposite is in fact the case.

I’ve interviewed a lot of victims of digital harassment. I’ve experienced it firsthand too. One of the hardest parts is that the normal people stay silent. The harassers are gleeful in the violation of your boundaries and no one else is saying anything. It makes it feel like everyone hates you.

The core appeal of reactionary politics is hatred of competent and smart people who follow evidence rather than use it to support conclusions. A million incidents like this happen daily in academia and legal settings, and they're behind almost all right-wing "liberal bias" accusations.

It was not just the Office of Technology Assessment: it was a whole structure that supported Congressional decision-making and Gingrich torched it (primarily because facts and expertise are apparently Democratic). It is time to double Congress’s budget and bulk up it staffing again.
