Just like Exxon knew about the impacts of climate change, the beef industry knew too. A new PLOS Climate study documents how the National Cattlemen’s Association (NCA), now NCBA, responded to evidence linking cattle methane to global warming from 1986–1996 (study 🔗 at end of 🧵)

When I was brand new at FC I got pitched a National Cattlemen's Beef Association white paper outlining the 'minimal environmental footprint of beef production in the US' and immediately called up @worldresources.bsky.social to get a sustainable food experts take: www.fastcompany.com/90431910/the...

The beef industry wants you to think that it has a 'minimal' environmental impact (it does not)

California just made it legal to turn balconies into tiny power plants
The state is the biggest to approve solar panels that plug into walls, giving residents a cheaper way to generate their own electricity.

Regenerative ag's GHG mitigation potential must consider impacts on yield & land-use New study iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1... A small yield penalty for regenerative crops—for otherwise low land use & high yield for direct consumption—is likely worth the tradeoff to protect long-term soil use

Well, the first and best thing to do is make our diets, food waste, and land use choices *far* more efficient. Eating lots of beef (whether feedlot or grass-finished), producing lots of corn ethanol, and wasting a third of the world’s food is pretty dumb.

EVs are awesome. I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5, which has a range of 300-350 miles. I charge it at home, which is convenient, and it costs me about $10 to completely recharge the battery. (84 kWh at 12 cents a kWh) Compare that to a similar size gas car, at 25-30 mpg, which would cost $54 to fill up.

Yeah, I did the 220 v charger, which cost about $300 and $1000 rewire the garage. Thankfully, there was a rebate for the rewiring and a tax credit for the charger that helped.
