"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

Out of the BBC’s four major regions, Northern Ireland has the highest percentage of viewers for local content, and by far the lowest regional spend. These shows are very specific to NI, and losing these is not the same as losing Blankety Blank or Celebrity Mastermind.

To those who say that genai is helpful and speeding up YOUR workflow your also actively a parasite on others where your tools are feeding off others. Treating the effort of others as just data is the hart of the tech never forget that.

I am in the lucky position, I guess, of not having my heart broken by this news. As someone I don't know, nor owe a career, it's very easy for me to remove Geller from my life. He's just a guy who did an awful thing, and it's not my job to decide what justice is for him. I don't care to debate it.

client feedback in the GenAI era
2 panel comic

Panel 1 is titled “Client Feedback (2012)
Red Guy sits at his desk typing on his laptop. There is a bubble on the right hand side of the panel showing his screen.
A small text panel says “and the”. There is an arrow pointing to the bottom of the words with a correction box that reads: “Text is slightly misaligned. Please fix”

Panel 2 is titled “Client feedback (2026)
Red Guy is slouched on chair typing into his phone. His phone screen shows a panel of text that is complete gibberish. This time the correction reads “not alphabet but who give a fuck”

This is so strange. It feels like they're trying to brute force the origin story of a cult around a machine god. I think we're witnessing something breaking in these people's brains.

I don't know how anyone could've watched Optimus Prime Awakening and not understand that it was leading into something. Watching scenes showing future events and Prime being told he can stop them, then a cliffhanger ending, and thinking "that was a nice, stand-alone farewell to Optimus Prime".

First guy is clearly Blerk Affgo. He's got a whole three book series about how he gave Galen Erso the idea of sabotaging the death star, and then waited out events in the cantina on Tatooine. The series ends with him seeing Luke walk in and he remarks "That guy is going to start a Star War(s)".

The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context. I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

Quite an impressive amount of this statement doesn't even add up. Calling anyone anything doesn't deny their heritage. Englishness is not an ethnicity. Linking Englishness with citizenship at all is bizarre, neither one relates to the other.

we've never had much reason to articulate this before a.i., but a reason we enjoy literature, art, music, etc. is that we know it is one human mind trying to express something fundamentally human and otherwise inexpressible to another human mind

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

100% the vibe that Lanterns poster gives off
A two panel cartoon the first showing someone peeing at a urinal, and a second person walking past. Second panel shows rhe second person peeing at the Urinal next to the first. Underneath that is the Lanterns poster with Hal Jordan looking straight forward and John Stewart giving him the angry side eye, the ol’ hairy eyeball.

What a fucking world where I find myself writing letters like this to my MP.
Letter to my MP:

Dear Fleur Anderson,

I am writing regarding the shocking scenes of masked far-right thugs blocking ports in Dover and, somehow more shockingly, forcing a Portsmouth RNLI station to close.

These scenes are horrific. Equally horrific is the rhetoric from some MPs and the press that these people have "reasonable concerns".

Just Stop Oil protestors have been swiftly stopped and arrested. The crux of their campaign is to ensure that the planet remains in a condition that is livable for humans. The existential threat of climate change is one of the most reasonable concerns one can imagine. Yet they were arrested and decried in the press.

Protestors opposing the genocide in Gaza have been equally swiftly arrested, with some even being proscribed as terrorist organisations. For opposing an ongoing genocide that has killed over 69,000 people - including 17,000 children - according to The British Red Cross. Stopping this appalling violence is another incredibly reasonable concern. Yet they are arrested and decried in the press, while others are proscribed as terrorists.

Preventing saving the lives of desperate people fleeing unsafe conditions is in no way a reasonable concern, yet MPs and the press talk about these masked thugs, preventing lives from being saved and swarming areas of key infrastructure, as having reasonable concerns. This is a shocking stain on this country.

Continued in next imageLetter continues: Migration is a net good for the country, even before you take into account the ageing workforce. The anti-migrant rhetoric comes from dangerous and violent men, and is spurred on by a press that thrives on outrage.

All human lives have equal value. Anyone preventing a lifeboat station - a lifeboat station! - from operating and saving human lives should be arrested and charged far more quickly than an elderly vicar sitting quietly and holding a sign.

I urge you to use your power as an MP to speak out on this. To call these balaclava-wearing men what they are: violent, masked thugs who speak only for a tiny, hateful minority. These are not reasonable concerns of patriots. These are the words and deeds of vicious people who want to fracture this country.

By way of reply, please confirm that you will raise this issue in parliament, and use your power to speak out against this disturbing rise of fascist violence.

Yours sincerely,

Guy Kelly
