Put another way, Ford wants to spend more on removing bike lanes in Toronto ($48M) than he's spent protecting all of Ontario's businesses from an international trade war. Ontario deserves serious leadership, that follows through on promises, and actually puts people before profits.

Mental model is exactly what I was thinking. I’m forever grateful for OR team dynamics. That loss of familiarity makes at least half of my distaste for out of OR work. Surgeons, bless ‘em, also have a similar construct of “being on time.” Folks don’t call it “radi-holiday” for nuthin’

I have a soft spot for interventional neuroradiology. I like both the visible (to me) anatomy and the patient experience (beats a crani). Added bonus, half of our interventionalistas are neurosurgeons. That said, the ergonomics are dreadful.

USTR is carrying some heavy buckets of water these days. Recall (per USTR), only 2 countries retaliated against Trump tariffs: 1) China; 2) Canada. This presser suggests USD$30B in forthcoming tariff relief for imports from China. On Tuesday, ~$1B in booze from Canada will banned from import by US

They tried their best to make the idea of having more things we want nearby, more options and choices in our cities and neighborhoods, seem like a conspiracy. But never forget what the REAL urban conspiracy has been — moving everything further away and making us car dependent. #1HourCityConspiracy
White text on black background reading “The real ‘urban conspiracy’ isn’t proximity, it’s distance. The ‘one hour city’ traps millions in long commutes, car dependency, and lost time. We need cities of proximity, time, and quality of life.” — @carlosmorenofr.bsky.social #UrbanTruth

Yup. Confounding by indication is always an issue with observational research. GLP-1s were a marker for higher BMI but I could not find data on diabetes. What I found interesting was the frequency of aspiration events in this group despite standard fasting and the use of ETTs.

“The incidence (95%CI) of pulmonary aspiration and/or regurgitation in the non-GLP-1 RA cohort was 57/45,691 (0.12% (0.09–0.16%)) and in the GLP-1 RA cohort was 19/1348 (1.41% (0.85–2.19%)); odds ratio (95%CI) 11.39 (6.47–20.05), p < 0.001.”

A lesson: Years ago, I was in a gym & the treadmills were packed. They all faced a window that overlooked... A beautiful park with 4 miles of dirt trails across the street. We often treat exercise as productive punishment. We need to treat it more like exploratory play.

Two extraordinary charts from today’s PISA test results: 1) School test scores continue to collapse internationally, underscoring how this is no longer a Covid effect but sustained decline. Those falls in reading and maths are equivalent to about two years of lost schooling.

Today’s poem is called ‘Morrissey’s Fridge’.

Morrissey’s Fridge

Morrissey
was filled
with sudden
self-doubt,

as he shut
his fridge door –
did the light
never go out?

Still struggling to find a good collective noun for a multidisciplinary health care team. Providers kinda works but gives corporate. Team is right there but doesn’t sound super professional. Words matter.

I have a deep and burning hatred for calling our patients customers, clients, consumers, service users, etc. Those terms are an immediate red flag indicating too much time at a desk, insufficient time at the bedside.
