this... does not feel good if what i think transpired, transpired. home fans potentially racially abuse an away player, player gestures at them to fuck off & gets red carded for that, the home team then goes on to score the goal to advance & possibly even eliminate the away team

Who’s played in the Copa Libertadores? Many #NWSL players have featured: Luisa Agudelo, Val Loboa, & Jorelyn Carabalí with Dep. Cali. Ary Borges won in 2022. Spirit players Claudia Martínez & Leicy Santos. have both appeared in the tournament. Bay FC’s Aldana Cometti as well. Plenty more.

There are so many things wrong with this. What has particularly angered me since I first heard is that womens sports are not a monolith! Each team and sport deserves its own unique coverage and beat writer, same as the men! Putting them all in one bucket while football teams get 2 writers each…

Two of our cofounders have written some of the most inspired soccer stories of all time in the last month. @catabush.com’s piece on Cavan Sullivan and @socratescousin.bsky.social’s analysis of Lisa Baum are of a similar vein: an excellent look at the new young stars of soccer. Cata is always must-read, but this is especially stellar work – not only on what makes Cavan Sullivan special, but dissecting the many factors which make it increasingly tricky to manage expectations around a top American soccer prospect. The definitive piece on the topic. An instant Cata classic.

The story of Cavan Sullivan is a story about American soccer idols, and by extension, a story about American soccer itself, both the good and the bad. 20 years after Freddy Adu, American soccer has its prodigy. For @scoutedftbl.com, the tales we weave about Cavan and all that came before (🎁 link):

Two decades after Freddy Adu, the United States finally has a new soccer icon. Now the nation must learn how to cope with the superstar it's craved.

This is an unequivocally false statement. Players inside and outside the organization have repeatedly issued complaints with the Fever Fanbase. While it’s not all Indy fans, it’s certainly a trend. To say the attacks have “no basis in reality” is disingenuous.
