The Thorns's last four home matches: Spirit - loss Chicago - draw Houston - draw Boston - loss That's pretty abysmal. #BAONPDX

080

Not gonna lie, kinda forgot Boston had the Thorns in their next match when I said I hoped not getting called up for Brazil would spark a fire in Guti. Wish that fire would have sparked next week. #BAONPDX #NWSL

000

Harvey! That was a tidy left-footed finish from Shae Harvey. Let's go (again)! #BAONPDX

Case in point, Tordin should have been playing in an attacker, but it's McKenzie out there as the right-sided forward. Tordin should have played her in instead of shoot, but the point stands. #BAONPDX

000

Mallie Mackenzie for Caiya Hanks just does not feel right for a match in which you're chasing a goal. #BAONPDX

Um, that was pretty clearly a foul on St. Georges and a freekick. Not sure how the ref determined that was a tackle won by St. Georges. #BAONPDX

Man, Pietra Tordin. Helluva player. #BAONPDX

070

Oh man, that would have been something if they scored there. #BAONPDX

Tordin! That was a great header from Turner touch from Tordin that led to the pen. One down. One to go. Let's go! #BAONPDX

I'm not surprised Reyes is coming off because of the yellow, but her fights something you like in the this kind of match. #BAONPDX

Targeting St. Georges on the left is not a bad strategy for they Thorns. She's a likely source for a penalty or two. Could be an avenue for an unlikely comeback. #BAONPDX

Ugh. That sucks. Ironically, Reyes backtracking and blocking the pass to Aissata prevented the offside call. Good hustle, unfortunate end to the situation. #BAONPDX

Oof. That's on Vignola. She was deeper than the rest of the defensive line. Plus side, Thorns can get at this Boston defense, but they're not showing offensive ideas and Boston's very capable going forward. #BAONPDX

Olivieri and Reyes have been battling. Frankly, like Reyes's earlier yellow, that was unnecessary from Olivieri. Talked herself into a yellow. #NWSL #BAONPDX

Down a player on a hair pull red? Need another red and we'll have 'em right where we want 'em. #BAONPDX

070

Looks like Soph pulled Araujo's hair. Pretty hard not to call that a red. #BAONPDX

Not sure Reyes needs take that yellow at this point in the match. May come back to bite her. #BAONPDX

Reyna vs Hernandez could be a fun battle of the backs. And that was another lovely ball from Tordin. #BAONPDX

For #BAONPDX crowd, Val Loboa called for full national team duty with Colombia. Happy to see Ingrid Guerra and Kelly Ibargüen getting calls too. Well deserved. Though interesting they’re listing her as an attacker. More regularly plays as an attack-minded wingback.

Jeff P. @thebestisjeff.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

I’ve discussed Ecuador’s and Colombia’s young talent but Venezuela have some good youth talent to keep an eye on as well. Rebanales (17) in goal Melanie Chirinos (18) & Gellinot Reyes (19) in midfield. Both moved to Palmeiras in 2026 Ailing Herrera (18), attacker, moved to Madrid CFF this summer.

According to the image, the Thorns are not headed to Coachella for preseason in 2027. Wonder what the plan is? #BAONPDX

My only real thoughts about the Man City scandal are around how the inevitable fallout is going to impact the women’s team, because the sins of the men’s team are always felt by the women’s team.

I know of a club in North-East Spain who could maybe use a shot in the arm from an old friend.

Jeff P. @thebestisjeff.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

ATL CTY as a norm? Like, I get it as an occasionally used, stylized version of ATL City, but as a norm? Not so sure. Also, since we’re on the topic of established equity, why not take advantage of just plain ol’ ATL?

Put another way: did the team use the phoenix because it is symbolism the city uses for itself regularly or did they want something that symbolized part of the character of the city and opted for the generic symbol of the phoenix?

110

Jeff P. @thebestisjeff.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Honest question: does the phoenix get used as a symbol a lot by Atlanta? The team’s release says it signifies the city’s resilience and abiility to reinvent itself, which the phoenix symbolizes. But is the phoenix a symbol Atlanta regularly uses, in general, or is the team making the connection?

Clip from team press release. Reads:

At the center of the crest is the Phoenix, the enduring symbol of Atlanta’s ability to rise, reinvent itself and emerge stronger through challenge. For generations, the Phoenix has represented the resilience and determination that define the city and its people.

This was a big #WoSo Saturday in COMNEBOL. First Colombia finished 3rd in the #U20WWC defeating Italy on penalties. If you know anything about the career of Luisa Agudelo, you'll know she's regularly on the winning end of penalty shootouts because she makes the saves, and she had two today. #FutFem

Also, I can remember two matches this season where the Thorns honored a player for reaching 100 league matches (Liv earlier in the season, Soph tonight). Both matches ended in draws. Just saying, the result may have been destined. #BAONPDX

I absolutely think some of this result comes down to players just not being in top form because they're returning from injury. It just sucks that we're so close to the playoffs. #BAONPDX

070

That was cleaner from Hanks, too. #BAONPDX

000

Marie Muller! I mean, the goal was coming (except for the fact that it didn't feel like it was coming). Plenty of time for another. #BAONPDX

000

Ok, he just gave a yellow to Muller, correctly. But did he give a yellow to the Dash player for the delayed foul on Nijstad? He should have. #BAONPDX

120

(1) I wish Reyna would have just ripped that when she cut inside near the top of the box. (2) I hope the Thorns go get another left-footed left back to either challenge MA as starter or to spot/sub for her, because I just don't think have right-footed backs when Caiya's on the left. #BAONPDX

000

The Thorns have come out in the second half with more offensive dynamism. The chances have just fallen to the two players working to shake off rust. But this is encouraging. #BAONPDX

Oh may, Caiya. You owe Tordin an apology. That passed needed a finish. #BAONPDX

040

Feels like the Thorns’s offensive plan is “get the ball to Soph and let her figure out a goal”, and that hasn’t worked yet. Sure, you want Soph on the ball a lot, but the Thorns can be a little more dynamic in that endeavor. #BAONPDX

160

That was great ball in from Vignola. Unfortunate to end up just behind Reyna's run. #BAONPDX

000

Twice now (one from Weaver, one from Wilson) where the player should spin and cycle possession instead of dribbling through a situation. Weaver's ended in a poor shot. Soph was tackled but recovered and fouled. Feels like were entering "just try to make something happen" territory. #BAONPDX

The ball is played forward to Van Zanten, who first times it back to Maggie Graham, who first times it to Faasse, who controls and plays in Rader. It's Graham's pass that makes this goal happen because Faasse has a moment of space, but Graham has to play a tricky ball first time. Very impressive.
