Was great to participate in this. Scientists were arguing up to the deadline about individual sentences, showing the difference in rigor when you care about accuracy, and how non-orthodoxy the “mainstream” actually is. But when comments are open for just 30 days it’s designed to be difficult.

This is a critical concern for anyone who cares about combatting climate change and facing this existential public health threat. I encourage anyone and everyone to take the opportunity to comment and voice their opposition to the overturning of the GHG Endangerment Finding. This is not a drill!

Trump's EPA is trying to destroy the Endangerment Finding -- the solid scientific conclusion that greenhouse gases are dangerously changing the climate. They've published fake, misleading claims from climate deniers. This will devastate efforts to stop climate change. The EPA comment period is open.

This is a remarkable letter and everyone should read it.
I can no longer, in good conscience, be a part of or lend any kind of support to what I see as increasingly strenuous efforts to comply with each and every immoral and often illegal directive being sent to the National Institutes of Health from the Executive Office of the President, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” (which, as of this writing, is not a duly enacted Department-level unit of the United States Government and does not have a duly appointed and confirmed Secretary-level administrator). Compliance with these directives violates my own morals and ethics and regularly requires me to contemplate behaviors that violate both my Physician’s Professional Oath and my Oath of Federal Service. Furthermore, I do not see those people best positioned to protect NIH and to protect biomedical research offering meaningful resistance or questioning any aspect of these directives in any detailed way. The most common response appears to be to comply as quickly and completely as possible, and to plan ahead for how to comply for any that may be on hold for the time being. I understand the reasons why this might be the position of those making the decisions for the agency, but understanding does not allow me to agree or to capitulate.

“While the risks to civil servants and academics’ livelihoods are real and understandably frightening, bullies are only emboldened by acquiescence or indifference.” The @thelancet.bsky.social comes out swinging against the thuggery from Washington DC www.thelancet.com/journals/lan... #MedSky
The pursuit of rigorous medical science is not compatible with capitulation to government demands aimed at weaponising and eroding science. On April 14, Edwin R Martin Jr, the Trump-appointed interim US attorney for the District of Columbia, sent a letter to at least one medical journal, CHEST, saying “that more and more journals and publications like CHEST Journal are conceding that they are partisans in various scientific debates”. The letter asked the journal to respond to five questions on topics such as how it handles misinformation and different viewpoints. This is an obvious ruse to strike fear into journals and impinge on their right to independent editorial oversight. The Lancet stands with CHEST and the other medical journals that are being intimidated by the Trump administration.
