We stopped all elective surgery and turned our outpatient post-anesthesia care unit into an additional ICU. We had so many critical care patients that we were out of ventilators and were cleaning our limited PPI masks with hydrogen peroxide so we could reuse them.

What you are doing now is an embarrassment to the NIH and to you, personally. What I am proposing would actually stimulate thoughtful fact-based discussion of important topics and could substantially improve public trust in NIH as an honest broker of scientific information related to health.

Thanks for your consideration.

I wrote to Director Bhattacharya with an idea about how to convert these "scientific freedom" lectures into something potentially useful. 1/3
Dear Director Bhattacharya: I saw that you held the second "Scientific Freedom" lecture today featuring Gary Taubes, a journalist, author, and diet advocate with no advanced scientific training and undergraduate training in physics rather than anything related to biology or medicine. I remain mystified about the "Freedom" refers to in the title of this series other than (thus far) the freedom to pontificate about topics for which one has no substantial training nor peer-reviewed publication record.
