I'm as keen as anyone to get rid of First Past the Post, but the idea that we can just snap our fingers and change the electoral system is the PR equivalent of those Brexiteers who thought we could leave the EU on 24 June 2016. This has to be done right, and that takes a bit of time.

I’m struck that there has been nothing from senior ministers here echoing the very stark public warnings from Macron and Tusk last week of an escalation in Russian hybrid attacks on European countries. And there will no parliamentary opportunity to quiz them on this for three weeks.

Interesting as usual. I've been thinking for a while that these Russian battlefield reversals, albeit small, haven't received enough attention (maybe because Ukraine has stopped trumpeting its plans in advance via social media?) That said, this war has been a history of pendulum swings since 2022.

It is incredibly important that political violence does not succeed. The far-right mob that shut down Portsmouth wanted this outcome. If the state wishes to avoid more of these actions, it needs to make sure this RNLI branch reopens *immediately*, or as close to that as humanly possible.
