I feel like we needed to have a referendum on whether a majority of Albertans wanted to have a referendum on immigration. Otherwise, why are we footing the bill for the spreading of misleading information?

Last week, Smith posted on social media that “For every $1 of taxes a guest worker generates, taxpayers are covering $10 in services.” While this figure might ring true for many, it is far from accurate. I fact-checked Smith’s claims in my latest for @thetyee.ca

More Palestinians have been killed (1,300) since the so-called ceasefire began in Gaza on 10th October 2025 than Israelis were killed on 7th October 2023 - including ten times as many children (300!) as were killed on 10/7. This is what a 'ceasefire' looks like for Palestinians.

This is particularly sick because kites are a symbol to many Palestinians (particularly Gazan children) of joy, freedom, + peaceful resistance. They are the focus of the late Dr. Refaat Alareer’s poem ‘If I Must Die’, asking survivors to sell his belongings to make a kite so a child can feel love.
If I Must Die
If I must die, you must live to tell my story to sell my things
to buy a piece of cloth and some strings,
(make it white with a long tail) so that a child, somewhere in Gaza while looking heaven in the eye awaiting his dad who left in a blaze — and bid no one farewell
not even to his flesh not even to himself -
sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above, and thinks for a moment an angel is there bringing back love.
If I must die let it bring hope, let it be a story.

Carney has announced he’s temporarily dropping the relatively small gas tax. He didn’t need to do that, with Poilievre in a free fall. And all it does is fuel the idea that gas taxes drive gas prices, which they obviously don’t. This was a mistake, similar to letting the carbon tax be reframed.

Note this IMPORTANT paragraph. “Some urbanists claim [the 15-Minute City] manufactured controversy has ‘died down,’ but the truth is that in many ways, the disinformation achieved its goal.” That’s NOT ok. With or without the brand, the concept of proximity is critical & common sense. Discuss it.
Text from the article: “Unfortunately, as was seen in the case of the ‘15 minute cities’ concept, disinformation campaigns against better urban environments can be strong and successful, even if they make no sense. Some urbanist claim that particular manufactured controversy has “died down“, but the truth is that in many ways, the disinformation achieved its goal. Many cities now avoid using the term at all, and are even careful about talking about having more things close by in other ways, less they be accused of “pushing that 15 minute city agenda.”

More language manipulation from major outlets, and again with alt text. Main stream media does this all the time. Israelis are killed, but Gazans just die, and worse they condone the killing of the Gazans by giving Israel an excuse for their continued genocide.
Headline from the Associated Press: Rockets kill 2 Israelis; 26 die in Gaza as Israel hits Hamas. Kill is used for the Israelis with no reason given, Die is used for Palestinians, with hitting Hamas used to condone the murder.
