Weird that 3 US companies -- Apple (€4.1bn), Microsoft (€5.6bn) and Eli Lilly (€5.7bn) -- now pay for people's heating oil, pension increases and tax cuts in this Budget. Near directly. They file windfall taxes = we hike social spending and cut our income tax. Utter, depressing dependence.

I cannot ever forget how the marching bands refused to be silent, as requested, going past the house where the mother of those three murdered boys took refuge in the weeks after her unthinkable loss. A small detail that exposes everything this march is for.

I can see an ultimatum being passed down on us by the EU in the next 15 years if we don't cop the fuck on with this shit. We've been nothing but a thorn in the side of the bloc for a decade now with our antics.

aside from the more significant issue of their patron also supporting a project run by someone who promotes rampant racism and calls for mass deportations, but if Progress Ireland’s whole deal is promoting building, is it not fair to expect their head to read the Development Plan?
The first thing to say is, it's hard to even find the 2022-2028 Dublin City Development Plan.
Despite being an electronic document, the council has chosen to split it into 24 separate PDFs. Added together, these 24 PDFs sum to 2,447 pages.
Note: I'm leaning on ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude a lot for this piece because no sane person could be expected to manually pore over two thousand pages of planning documents. If there are errors, blame the voluminous PDFs - not the LLMs. Nor

The EU has passed a regulation saying that AI generated text should be labelled as such I’ve just read a very long piece by an irate American on how this requirement is a “perversion of writing.” I thought it was A.I. that was perverting writing but it turns out its us wicked Europeans.
And we swarthy, small moustachioed Europeans thought we would get away with it!

We really need a European Internet ;)

One aspect raised in the draft version is whether the infrastructure support and investment provided to data centres “could be more impactful if directed toward public services like transport or housing”. But this was cut from the final report. jrnl.ie/7122123

Concerns over supporting data centres ahead of transport or housing scrubbed from government report
Several aspects which questioned continued investment in the sector were later cut from the final version released to the public.

You sometimes see Government TDs pointing out that Ireland isn’t unique in the world in having a housing crisis. But this graph in today’s Financial Times shows just how extreme ours is compared to the places elsewhere, which also describe themselves as a in a housing crisis.
The share of young adults living with their parents is climbing in many countries and cities, with Ireland leading the way % of people aged 25-34 who live with their parents. National averages vs major regions

[5 line graphs. Ireland’s is sharply above 40% since 2010. The rest show US, U.K., Canada and Australia. The next highest result is the US at just over 20%]
