There should be a large scale investigation into why the PSNI advised the parades commission that there would be no trouble at the parade and then drafted 200 additional cops from Scotland for the weekend

The public inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane is being prevented from access to millions of intelligence documents. Government funding for a secure computer system has yet to be agreed, more than two years after the investigation was first announced.

I do wonder whether as many op-eds would be in favour of the GAA as there have been defences of the Orange Order in the past few days if the slogan was 'No Casement No Stormont'

This is framing a United ireland as an impossibility, seemingly in order to stick it to Trump and making it seem like the US colonising Greenland. It is also pretty obtuse about the origins of partition. The phrase 'Even Micheál Martin' is used as if he is some kind of arch anti-partitionist

For people of my age (old) and my background (CNR) who grew up in NI during the 90s, Drumcree was the nadir of community relation & differences in our perceptions of ‘rights’. We just could not conceive how a group of snarling, angry men thought their ‘right to march’ surpassed our ‘right to exist’.

anyone with a modicum of historical understanding here would understand that the idea of 'Northern Ireland... prosper[ing]' is for the Orange Order to get their way. That's what 'Northern Ireland' was actually designed to guarantee. It is bad faith to suggest otherwise

apart from broadcasting the views of the Orange Order unchallenged, we also have the News Letter interviewing unelected private citizen Jamie Bryson, who has said that Michelle O'Neill's position is untenable. The media and particularly the News Letter have had their own complicity in this

Does Heather Humphreys have any Sunday paper column today educating us on the "nuances of unionism, loyalism, Orange lodges & marching bands"? It seems like a lost opportunity "to break the culture of silence " by her if not, given the "nuances" of what's happening on the Garvaghy Road. #IrishPol

Never been more clearer that political unionism have absolutely no coherent vision for the future of the six counties in terms of actual social or economic policies, let alone one that would appeal to anyone outside of their tent. The Garvaghy Road is the limit of their ambition

for all that this is the FAI's fault, and they put the players in this position, I find it very hard to respect any of them who voted to play in this context. Can't see myself being back at the Aviva anytime soon.

I am sick of people who, have never organised politically or been involved in campaigning criticising the Palestine solidarity movement for focusing on Palestine. If you really care about any of other very legitimate causes, why not organise a protest rather than expecting someone to do it for you?

Famously, the Fleadh got rid of every historical grievance that Irish people ever had in Belfast and removed the need for Irish Language signage and Casement Park in one fell swoop

On Drumcree, if unionists want to row in behind Jamie Bryson en masse then I look forward to that working out for them at the polls, both in terms of an assembly or the prospective border one. Funny that last month they saying the Fleadh proved that Irishness can be accommodated in the union

When you argue that fascists should be defeated through debate what you're actually suggesting is that vulnerable minorities should have to endlessly argue for their right to exist and that at no point should the debate be considered over and won.
