The olive harvest season has barely begun, and already Palestinians have been killed, beaten, shot at and driven from their land, while their trees, homes, vehicles, crops and equipment have been attacked by Israeli settlers.

Left: The Tories claim they’ll save taxpayers nearly £1bn a year by cutting student loans to “foreign students”. Right: Most international students on Student visas don’t qualify for UK student finance in the first place. So where exactly are these £1bn “savings” coming from?

Burnham could change tax relief on pension contributions for his projects. Gross tax relief in 2024-2025 was £83.9bn. 71% went to 7.7m additional & higher rate taxpayers. 29% to 30.4m basic rate taxpayers. Giving relief to all at 20% leaves £14.5bn spare for social care. But equality/equity?

Yes, it would, but the point is that no ordinary human being is ever going to do such a thing. The ordinary human being would sooner starve than live on brown bread and raw carrots. And the peculiar evil is this, that the less money you have, the less inclined you feel to spend it on wholesome food. A millionaire may enjoy breakfasting off orange juice and Ryvita biscuits; an unemployed man doesn't. Here the tendency of which I spoke at the end of the last chapter comes into play.
When you are unemployed, which is to say when you are underfed, harassed, bored and miserable, you don't want to cat dull wholesome food. You want something a little bit "tasty". There is always some cheaply pleasant thing to tempt you. Let's have three pennorth

No surprise: new analysis shows that heat pumps can deliver excellent performance even in older buildings with no meaningful correlation between building age & heat pump efficiency. This is in line with my own experience of having a heat pump in a 1880 Victorian home with only modest insulation.

Kuenssberg framed one question as "tax and tax and tax again". Politicians, or Labour at least, need to challenge the negative assumption that tax is bad. Tax pays for the army, the NHS, teachers, social care, etc. We need these things and probably more of them.

It happens when a player loses control of the ball, lunges to try+ retain control or win the ball back. They are stretching+ reacting instinctively but don't see the risk from the opposing player doing the same. He may touch the ball first+ the studs miss the shin but the follow through is dangerous
