correcting a previous QT as details become clearer &, yes, this provision *would* also block access to HRT, as a “transition procedure.” that affects up to 152,000 trans people who have no access to healthcare outside of medicaid/chip—a number i expect will rise due to employment discrimination.

A subtweet: every debate regarding college admissions is a debate about artificially constructed forms of capitalist scarcity. Every last college in this country could be and should be free and open-admissions

Columbia is bringing cops on campus president.columbia.edu/content/fulf...
The University has hired 36 special officers who will have the ability to remove individuals from campus and/or arrest them. Those individuals are near completion of their training and credentialing under New York law to work on our campus. We will continue to assess the necessary size of this force to achieve our goals. The University has a longstanding relationship with the NYPD. While we train and credential our internal security force, we will continue to rely on our relationship with the NYPD to provide additional security assistance when needed.

A lot of the work of justice is routine, ordinary & sometimes mundane. Care work is one of the most radical liberatory pursuits. Feminized labor is the backbone of all liberation struggles.

Every fight for justice is an abolitionist one - the movement for reproductive justice, migrant justice, climate justice, food justice, gender justice, disability justice, mad justice & beyond. Abolishing a carceral world blooms a multitude of freedoms for all of us.

Holy crap. The DOJ is arguing that the President can unilaterally deport anyone he wants without ANY statutory authority, just on his inherent authority as President over national security. That is a terrifying claim to make and not one that has ever been recognized before in US history.
Beyond the statute, the President’s inherent Article II authority is plainly
violated by the district court’s order. As a function of his inherent Article II authority
to protect the nation, the President may determine that TdA represents a significant
risk to the United States, that it is intertwined and advancing the interests of a foreign
government in a manner antithetical to the interests of the United States, and that its
members should be summarily removed from this country as part of that threat.

So, for those of you not following, the 1952 code that gives the Secretary of State authority to deport anyone deemed a threat to national security, the one they're using against Mahmoud, was written in the heart of the McCarthy era, a way to target "communists" ie Eastern European Jews.

The ‘can machines do creative writing’ thing is mostly a distraction from the use of the machines to go through text and images to cancel grants and put people on deportation lists

Nothing makes me more annoyed right now than the pretentious leftists who are talking down to people doing good work and making them feel stupid or like they are not smart/radical enough or that their work is not the "real work" because they are caring for people, relationships and communities GTFOH
