The leader referenced here, in one of the last paragraphs from my recent piece on the SBC, GOP and Paul Pressler, is actually William Wolfe.

Article excerpt: But it’s hard not to wonder if a much bigger opportunity was squandered. It’s easy, given the years of promises, to see why so many survivors have lost faith. A 2023 report from Lifeway Research found that roughly six in ten SBC churches used background checks. But among those with fewer than fifty members—about 40 percent of SBC churches—that number fell to just 35 percent. Ahead of the SBC’s meeting this summer, momentum seems to be on the side of anti-abuse-reform forces, who continue to dissect Lyell’s case and are rallying behind what one leader has declared a “second conservative resurgence.” They know, as Pressler did, that who shows up matters.

One of those cases quietly closed was the investigation into sexual assault allegations within the #SBC. No word as to whether or not it was done as the result of political pressure by influential figures in the Trump administration by men like Robert Jeffress.

The more these evangelicals try to become the government the more people they will drive away. They are only accelerating the demise of their institutions by merging them with the state. The evangelicals of the founding era understood this dynamic, which is why they wanted church/state separation.

Two thoughts: 1. Baptists & Catholics together under the idea of “Christianity” betrays both Baptist AND Catholic doctrine. We have divergent views on critical doctrines. 2. Enforcing this kind of watered down “christian” theology by the State can be undone by the next POTUS.
