Wondering if their call for slowing down frontier development is cost-related, and not “we could accidentally creat Skynet” related.

It’s a point that has been made before: These people are here without authorization only because the administration revoked it. It is as if Trump were somehow to strip citizenship from every Democrat.

There’s 2 paths forward for our country. Either we elect leaders who make *massive,* structural changes (prosecuting the Epstein Ring, getting money out of politics & Medicare-for-All), or we elect 500 Gavin Newsoms who do nothing, which enables a more dangerous fascist than Trump to win in 2032

I’m on a small-ship Alaska cruise with my son; our boat rescued a stranded vessel last night and apparently we did that after the Coast Guard radioed Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht - which was closer - and they repeatedly refused to respond. (There was near unanimous booing when the captain announced this)

The "Serenity Prayer" (*Serenity to accept things I can't change/Courage to change the things I can/Wisdom to know the difference*) is usually cited as pop psychology or addiction recovery advice, but I think there's a place for it in policymaking. 1/
A giant fist clutching the Android robot. The robot is orange and has Trump's hair. The fist extends from an EU-flag-blue cuff, and it is ringed with yellow EU flag stars. To the side is an old-timey western bar with a drunk, smoking, glaring Uncle Sam leaning on it. The background is a haunted, moonlit forest.

I say this every time someone who was horrible for the world dies, and that’s I don’t wish anyone ill but trying to tone police people into only speaking well of the dead is a way of excusing what they did. I’m sure Lindsey was a charming man but did/excused a lot of evil things while in power.

Lest anyone accuse me of bargaining in bad faith here, let me start with this admission: I don't think AI is intelligent; nor do I think that the current (admittedly impressive) statistical techniques will lead to intelligence. 1/
A killer 1940s robot zapping two large domes with eye-lasers; trapped under the domes are two children, taken from 1910s photos of child laborers; one, a little girl in a straw hat, is holding two heavy buckets. The other, a newsie with a shoulder bag, is picking his nose. The background is the collapsing pillars seen in Dore's engraving of The Death of Solomon.

There's plenty of reasons to be skeptical of centrists who bemoan "political polarization" and call for a politics that abandons the "tribalism of left and right." 1/
The icy chamber at the center of Dante's hell, dominated by Satan, massive and peering around with his chin propped on his elbows, which rest of the ice-sheet. From the ceiling of the chamber dangles a massive, decapitated head, suspended by the hair. Beneath it is a pile of corpses in middle ages armor. On the opposite side of the chamber stands a suburban housing plot; another group of (living) soldiers in armour aim a giant catapult at it.
