“When we criticise the system, we’re not attacking individuals, we’re challenging the rules that let 3% hoard the wealth while everyone else gets squeezed. Often people overidentify with the system, they think an attack on the govt is an attack on them. It’s not. It’s a defence of the 97%”-RW #NZpol

Luxons Government is waging war on kids. They have replaced locally prepared nutritious food with centrally prepared inedible stodge that arrives late. 2.20 pm today for intermediate aged kids who finish at 2.50. They have increased speed limits around schools. Speed kills.

First day back teaching for the year. It's lunchtime and the LUNCHES HAVE NOT ARRIVED. Kids tell me this happened on Wednesday too. So the kids are off to play until the lunches arrive. Also, the kids want their Subway and (even the) Pita Pit back. They don't like the new food.

Stop letting unfunny men tell you there’s something wrong with you for not getting their “jokes”. Stop fake laughing. Let their reality reflect the truth of how fundamentally they misunderstand humor. Neuter their ability to use “it was a joke” for emotional cover. Make them see nobody laugh.

Cormac van den Hoofdakker is on the 'edge of his seat' with reinvigorating online abuse, hate, misogyny, xenophobia, & racism. Oh he's VERY much all over this.
Marketing Manager at Tui post on Linked in

It's not often you get a chance to reinvigorate a legendary brand like Tui, let alone bring back an advertising campaign as iconic as 'Yeah right. The timing felt right, and now more than ever we need to connect over a good laugh. As we went live on Monday, I've been on the edge of my seat. Checking posts, reading comments (so many comments), waiting to see how people react. Have we got it right? It's only day 3, but it feels kiwis are super excited to see Tui back!

Given comments in the Herald, the DB Breweries senior marketing manager Cormac van den Hoofdakker is *directly responsible* for this online hate, & violence directed at the former MP. Please use this thread/evidence in complaints you make to NZ's ASA around this Tui ad. www.asa.co.nz/complaints/m...

From what's platformed on their own, official page through to the commentary around the ad publicly featured elsewhere on social media, Tui's ad has *directly contributed* to increased hate, & violence directed at the individual Leo Molloy targeted without any merit, basis in fact or evidence.

A discursive trend of gleeful mockery emerges around the false narrative created by Molloy, & dog-whistled by the Tui ad with tweets focusing on public humiliation. Many deliberately downplay the former MP's professional background, & public role, reducing her identity to 'criminal', & 'thief'."

Which is not something the Herald article examines or DB Breweries senior marketing manager Cormac van den Hoofdakker is asked about. Tui, through this ad on its official Facebook page, amplifies misogyny, & hate targeting an individual already at significant risk of targeted offline violence.

The 51 comments studied surfaced a familiar discourse, & language in the sustained targeting on this former MP (and esp. other wāhine Māori from the Green Party) for years, and in a manner that grew exponentially after 7 Oct '23. All of this publicly platformed on Tui's official Facebook account.
Language targeting the former MP in the Facebook comments studied included: "bullying, bint, slack, dirty thief, scumbag, loaded thief who doesn't need to steal, deluded idiot, piece of st, Iranian, peice of st, stupid, should be deported, cut one hand off, chop at the wrist, needs jail time, proper punishment, privileged, needs deportation, should be punished extremely, repeat offender, needs 5 years minimum in jail, needs proper punishment not minimal fines, mentally anguished, uncontrollable urges, making excuses, using depression as an excuse, should be put in jail, Green fingers, entitled, thinks she's clever enough to be a thief, needs to be locked up, take the Iranian out of Iran but not Iran out of the Iranian."

Some on Facebook (studied 51, out of nearly 80 now) condemned the ad. Many others however amplified, & featured considerable hate, & harms against the individual Molloy targeted. The tone was hostile and punitive, with widespread dismissal of mental health. Misogyny, & xenophobia rampant.
