since the topic of the week is the question of ~city hall decorum~ and which electeds can use which tones in their remarks to the public and to each other - remember that time Loretta Smith was shockingly curt to invited public testimony and none of the current pearlclutchers blinked an eye

Two thoughts: 1) If a restaurant doesn’t care how they present their food on a menu, then I’m going to assume that restaurant doesn’t care how their food is prepared. 2) Why should I support a business that won’t use their revenue to in turn support my business/industry (graphic design)?

LA protects drivers' feelings at pedestrians' expense, and it's killing us. A crosswalk in my hood makes people wait up to 60 seconds so cars don't get annoyed. Pedestrians give up and just cross. Why have a signal at all? A 🧵 about the city’s codependent relationship with drivers.

It seems the survey is seriously flawed in its design: most of the options for priority & appropriations assignments are the statutory responsibility of special districts, county or local jurisdictions’ transit/transportation departments - not ODOT’s or ORLeg’s. It’s little more than a push poll.

This is especially wild when you consider the investment made in light rail to begin with. Would a DOT ever close down a freeway because budget cuts? Especially relevant given that we are talking about Oregon.

district 4 voters in pdx — here's the plan for portland city council election this year. Consider donating $5 or more to their campaigns, and the small donors fund will match you donation! That means you can make a big contribution by making a small one: $5 becomes $50 donation, $12 --> $120.

guns vs butter, highway boondoggle edition
That tension was most clearly articulated by Senator Khan Pham, who has been one of the primary negotiators tasked with trying to get a transportation package across the finish line in Oregon, with the most recent proposal to shore up transportation revenue statewide recently repealed by Oregon voters.

"Having been in the trenches of the transportation package struggle in Salem last year, I am here this morning to say that it will be challenging to pass a package that meets our state's basic needs if I am also expected to raise additional billions of dollars for current and future cost overruns of an oversized highway bridge project," Senator Khan Pham told the Oregon Transportation Commission in May. "Every additional billion committed to this project is funding unavailable for preservation, maintenance, safety, and transit needs across Oregon."
