one of my favorite things on earth are considered, complete freeware games you can jump into sight unseen and go on a full journey in 5-15 minutes. there is zero institutional or critical support for the form, so when artists persevere and get real good at making 'em anyway it makes me very happy

i know that the bootstrap method (within caveats) is probably statistically sound, but the idea of "i'll deal with my low sample size by resampling from my samples" sounds janky as all hell, with the only intuitive justification being, "we're doing that anyway by sampling the larger poplation"

Tracking #tianwen2 for a few days, we see that the Chinese spacecraft is clearly getting closer to the asteroid Kamo'oalewa. According to online rumors (see wikipedia's reference to a post from Andrew Jones), it would arrive 7 June 2026. That seems consistent with our observations so far.

Dwingeloo observations of Tianwen-2. A star plot (DSS background) with a blue line showing the coordinates of Kamo'oalewa over time and red dots showing the Dwingeloo radio telescope localizations of the spacecraft. A fit through the localizaions shows that the spacecraft is getting closer to the asteroid.
