**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights** Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight.
From meteorologist Eric Snitil

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights**

"Heads up birders, I would not be surprised if the biggest bird migration night of the year happens over the next 2 nights. Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight. That is a lot, but the pattern could not be better for migratory birds. A massive area of high pressure will turn the low level winds from the northeast to the southwest across most of the US. The last time we had anything similar to this in the fall was early October last year when a record 1.25 billion birds were in flight. I doubt we get to that level, but I suspect the number will top 500 million especially Monday night which looks to be the bigger of the two nights. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights on big migration nights, and the next 2 nights is about as big as it gets."

The swamp enjoys showing off its pinewood gingertails colonizing all of its the dead hemlocks every autumn, but what's not been mentioned yet is that they're always full of mites. #FungiFriends #arachnids #ento

Locking people up for using drugs will never make sense to me. The people I've known who've used drugs, in spite of the threat of severe consequences, did so bc they are not/were not okay. Locking people in dungeons traumatizes them further and makes these patterns even harder to break.

Come, sit, & watch a Northern Amber Bumblebee back out of a Pale Gentian flower after collecting it’s pollen. Because of the tightly closed flowers, it requires the largest Bumblebees to pry the flowers open in order to pollinate them. Your Friday Prairie Zen. Enjoy! #prairiezen #wildflowers #bees

Be cautious and respectful of our friends the Hickory Tussock Moths (Lophocampa caryae). Avoid skin exposure to setae (hairs). Annual life cycle, seen as catrplrs in NE US in fall. Hosts: deciduous, woody plants. Picked around them in the Am. Hazels, NP. More info: extension.psu.edu/hickory-tuss...

Sometimes I like to gaslight myself into believing there is some cosmic conspiracy against me, to figuratively and literally bust my kneecaps in every few months in the form of fucking me over, repeatedly and lubless, because otherwise I just might be too powerful and change the world. 😇

But didnt it have a warranty!? Yes. Yes it did. It also apparently had a class-action lawsuit for the engine because its a p.o.s, that was never replaced under said claim, which is no longer accepting new claims since 2022. Which the dealership knew and I only found out about 15days ago. 🫠

I did a brief thread on living with wasps last week, with a photo of this nest that's been on our barn all summer. The wasps learned not to adhere the nest to the garage door, since we open it daily. This clip shows how they engineered the nest to avoid any problems. bsky.app/profile/clim...

My Helianthus was misslabled too, this year!! I honestly dont remember the actual species, or quite know the one we ended up with, other than its most certainly not one of the smaller "dwarf" cultivars, and i remember being excited explicitly about that. I chopped early June, its still ~6ft+ lol

The Sweet Everlasting, however, was a single stand-alone plant as far as I could see in the immediate area, just a single plant by itself... so im good concious I couldnt dig it up, it was growing on a boundary edge of a grocery chain distribution center off I-95. Its unlikely to lose its spot any

The maryland aster was growing just like Goldenrod, a rosette tuft with single stem forming multiple colonies. It had seeded a large area and I was able to easily procure a couple of plants to bring home to the #GardenWildCommunityNursery what a fantastic "spike" of late summer color it will be!

I do! The coopers Hawks love it as much as all the critters that shelter , too lol some years its bigger than others but its actually built over a small man-made vernal pool aswell next to my meadow-strip. This year a lot of wood went into my new soft landing to create layers, but its still dwcent!

Its certainly not common on the east coast in terms of accessibility thats for sure! But i really rhink it will do fantastic as a grass alternative especially among papers and things. There's a nursery in Tx that ships flats I may order some amd experiment with just for that alone, seems Invaluable

Yeah I think technically when i looked it up its considered native in Va, which surprised me, but I would bey (total assumption) its a naturalized "native" here vs like native-native if that makes sense ? Lol

This is how I plan to cut #GardenWild s first "piedmont prairie " client this year as well. Small in comparison, only 4 acres, but diverse- and the plan is to leave the best plant diversity in islands and mow areas still under invasive removal/control- leaving large "islands" for overwintering
