I definitely did not want cops blowing through intersections with crossing guards during the morning student commute. Also as a parent I would rather spend $$ on education and housing.

Safety for who? People of color do not feel safe sending their kids out. Women still need to watch their backs. if something does happen no guarantee their rape kit is tested or they won’t be humiliated during the investigation. Police reinforce social inequality they don’t protect everyone equally.

Once again, Federal fascism is already here and people aren't "complying in advance," they are simply COMPLYING. Some people got mad when I said in late 2024 that most people are not brave which is why we need collective action. There's strength in numbers. Most people are not brave on their own.

NYPD is the largest police force per capita by 10s of thousands of cops. If NY were on par with LA the city would have 8000 officers not 36,000. Tisch needs to go but she is not an anomaly. Other NY communities have police leaders from the wealthiest families.

I think a lot about what a different world we'd have if the algorithms rewarded heartwarming stories instead of rage bait. As I recall, they DID find people respond to happy/inspiring content ("I saved this dog!") very strongly. Rage bait just performed a *fraction* better. And they made a choice

White men are now coming to terms with the fact that the US legal system has never been about justice and always about protecting those in power. It has always been riddled with racism and sexism. We have failed to address the underlying rot in the foundation.

The real estate industry should pay for these buyouts. Who builds homes on top of a pond? Greedy assholes who can pay for their grift. “ Hack and Mooklal created fundraisers to possibly rebuild their home. But that’s a tricky prospect in their neighborhood, which sits atop a former pond.”

“For too long we have not put forward our own vision for accountability… What would it mean to really hold war criminals accountable and have it apply across the board…” The US avoids accountability for the powerful.

Two talks from software devs (react three fiber, gsap) saying community input, convo has died while installs go up - AI is user now, but how do they improve the libs without useful feedback? And a morale problem for open source devs.

The federal minimum wage is $7.25 and has not changed singed since 2007. Every congressional rep and senator should be hounded to increase it to $24/hr at least. Yes it will massively disrupt the economy but for 52million Americans it already doesn’t work.

This is SUCH an important story. It explains why NYT framed the influencer story the way they did. It explains why influencers are important if you want credit for fixing govt. It shows the stories that NYT refuses to cover, bc it doesn't fit NYT's narrative conventions.

I have been confused by the fascination with Moses. He was racist and prioritized cars over people. NYC could be in a much better place transit wise if he had never held so much power

For public companies anyone who owns stock is complicit in these decisions unless they are advocating for and passing corporate governance to make climate informed decisions a key goal of the organization. The boomers are vacationing on the dividends of growth at all costs with little awareness.

Both parties formed ICE after 911. And they were warned that it would not end well. Biden was fine continuing Trumps anti immigrant policies. If Biden had said this is anti American and changed the discourse in this country we might be in a different position. Instead we are all fucked.

lol. Only if you can afford it. Our higher education system was deliberately designed to keep the already poor from rising up through education. Many other countries have free or very low cost colleges. Then if you get in…there’s an entire genre of fiction called dark academia for a reason.

Housing cannot be solved without also addressing low wages. Minimum wage in NYC is too low for people to afford the cost of what it takes to live in the city. Mamdani was right to call for taxing the billionaires AND the feds need to raise the minimum wage nationally so jobs stop moving south
