if you ever want to go down rabbit holes, the steve hoffman forums are full of audiophile dads obsessing over/arguing about mastering details on different editions of basically every major rock and pop reissue, always enjoy those threads. feels like the last standing corner of 00s forum culture

While this does mean the destruction of everything we've ever loved, this article is unfortunately also very funny.

Quite genuinely think her (and Chibnall's) two finest moments are, respectively, the first and last episodes. Just a shame about virtually everything in the middle... When this came out, I was delighted by it. And then come the finale, was glad they went out putting a relatively strong foot forward

Holy shit. Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt it in Rust and released it as open source. Either all software is dead or the US copyright laws are about to receive an update. getartcraft.com/apps

The Charles portrait absolutely screams 1970s paperback illustration.
Mockups of the King Charles portrait as 1970s paperbacks:
Mills & Boo: 'Mr Sausage fingers' by Camilla Shandy
Puffin books: The Return of Big Ears by Charles King

do not want to overstate Cleverly's political skills, brand, or charisma. But, like, i *do* simply think that his parliamentary supporters playing silly buggers with his nominations has become a pivot point, reshaping the next decade

amazed Doves are still touring without Jimi on vocals. In my view, if not him they absolutely need a touring guest vocalist. Was so shaky when i caught them on their last album run

yes, it is a lot. But def doesn't have that intensity on home video - when i saw it in the cinema the person i was with had a full on panic attack and had to leave. Seen prob 150 films with this person, that was a one off

watching this after Another Round does make me go, good lord we just don't have enough dance scenes in films. Films should have at least one song in and it would be good if someone did a dance at some point too

wrong. it is spelt Wet Leg but is to be stylised Wet L'eg which is meant to be said very fast so it is pronounced like "wet little egg". One member of the band is called wet, yes. But the other one is called Egg.

if anything a way it helps Labour is in justifying a much harder line. Tories will be going v hard on the 2015-style coalition/chaos attack lines.

A quick look for sentences passed down (a while ago, yes) for others convicted of bombings in the UK suggests - and I know that the legislation is different - that 15 years is at the lower end of what he might have expected.

a take i have actually is that, despite the standard criticism of the Hobbit movies being that they're too long, the extended editions are better

im reading The Hobbit for the first time in my adult life, in the beautiful new tove jansson edition, and i am kind of shocked by how much it is not making me think less of the films

I'm in the habit of going on Archive and other places to peruse scanned magazines and I'm gonna post stuff I find now and then. Mostly when they're ads that are just incredible
vintage magazine ad for an RCA television

on the television is an image of an old sailing vessel listing at sea due to foul weather and waves

two dogs are watching it, and, so enrapt, they are tilting at the same angle as the ship

ad text: "Watching a ship on a stormy sea on the RCA Home Theatre is like being there without getting drenched or feeling seasick. Our new Optimum Contrast Screen gives you blacker blacks and more brilliant whites for a picture so clear and bright, you can almost feel the waves crashing around you. See the Home Theatre" at an RCA dealer: And go sailing without ever leaving your house. Changing Entertainment. Again. RC"

the reason i will just not think too much about this is that, regardless of events between now and then, a GE campaign is an environment Burnham will thrive in. Kemi thinks she will thrive, but will not

With David Ellison's Skydance taking control of Warner Bros, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s's Digger may be the last gasp of free speech in cinema. With a stunning Tom Cruise performance, this satirises oil oligarchs and liberal arts in equal measures; a 5/5 masterpiece. film-authority.com/2026/10/03/d...

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

lots of people embarrassing themselves on the tl this morning. 'on a knife edge' isn't what you say when something is really close. It's what you say when conditions are hypothetically 30% of the way from potentially being close in theory if things line up well. shaking my head.
