OMG, I didn't realize there'd been a second volume of this book ("Freedom, Rhythm & Sound") published. Vol. 1, long OOP, is an essential guide to independent and privately pressed jazz recordings of the '70s, and by extension a deep dive into Black culture of the time. A prized possession of mine.

Really sad news, hearing that the mighty Steve Barrow has passed. Partnered the Daddy Kool shops in the 70’s and compiled 100’s of essential sets. When he co-founded Blood & Fire in 1993, he transformed the reggae music business, making sure those players got their due. A knowledgeable, kind soul

Looks like a Bike to School ride since the bike cops are there to block streets. Some schools organize these once a year to promote cycling. It's super fun to be part of a huge pack of kids cruising down the street with their pals! This should be a regular thing.

Yeah, depends on the context. Hacking is one of the only sports you can play while smoking and drinking so we kept the rules fairly light. Mainly just to discourage hogging the sack like long stalls, not passing quickly enough, etc.
010
spinach @freshspinach.com · 05/05/2026
It's all about the stall! Gives you the ability to slow things down and maintain control.
110
spinach @freshspinach.com · 05/05/2026
We used to take some beans out to make these sacks easier to stall. Crushing them under foot helps to work the fabric in quicker which also allows for easier stalls.
