Been listening to this show and highly recommend it! It’s like If Books Could Kill if it were about the same book every episode, that book was a fanfic, and it also somehow explained why so many people in the AI world are the way they are

There is actually something really beautiful to me about the conversation emerging around AI and the reminder that the tasks we set for ourselves are not for their own sake, but for our own human growth, learning, understanding and flourishing.

People fail to notice liars and abusers close to them all the time, so I don’t put a lot of stock in “I know this person and they’re sincere”

One thing I’m constantly aware of thanks to experiences in my own life: you cannot, truly, discount the possibility that these people are excellent liars or have deluded themselves

Not mutually exclusive: - some ai risk people believe - some ai risk people believe but are falling prey to motivated reasoning and biases - some ai risk people are cynically taking advantage of the situation These aren’t monoliths. All of these things are true about some rapture believers too.

Feature idea for Bluesky/other frontends: only allow people to reply if they correctly answer a question that you write alongside the post. You can already restrict replies to a given list of users, so this would basically create a new list, use that, and add users to it if they get the right answer

I dream of a cultural shift so large that every copaganda TV show and movie is replaced by an equivalent work about a dogged government regulator chasing down issues with food, pharmaceutical, airline, traffic safety and financial crime. So basically Leverage but they aren’t thieves I guess

I’m the proud owner of a Scion xB. I had to get some repairs done recently that took a while. When I called for a progress update the mechanic said to me, verbatim, “ah yeah she’s a sweet ride”

I liked how in blockbuster every time you glanced at a video box for more than a second it would start playing the video on full volume over the PA whilst someone in a back room would click a clicker and mumble ‘one more view!’

I place a lot of value on viewpoint diversity (the real one) and on free speech (the real one). It sucks how both concepts have been hijacked to mean “everyone is under a moral obligation to elevate and disseminate discredited claims if today’s political right is into them.”

I have many theories of slop, but my current Theory of Slop is that what makes slop "slop" and not just "bad art" is that slop only ever aims to sate a desire created by past experiences of art rather than to create a new experience to be desired.

The recommendation algorithm thinking is why companies failed to copy the success of Game of Thrones by making other fantasy shows. GoT was different than any other show, and was (at least at the beginning) incredibly well made/acted/plotted/etc. But “just make a good unique show” doesn’t scale.

This is imo exactly right and also why any “productivity” measures/targets with AI need qualification. The first two types will output a lot, but it’s then very easy to point at projects in the third bucket and say they’re falling behind rather than they’re optimizing for different things

Finally, hilariously, it describes this approach of doing simple keyword matching with no other processing in the following way in a code comment: "Combines NLP keyword heuristics + domain analysis + custom user tagging". It's like the joke about making changing a lightbulb sound good on a resume.

Lot of interesting aspects but my favorites are movie, cinema, film, and music indicating the gaming topic and "ai" indicating that it's a dev post. Unfortunately many other words contain the letters "a" and "i" in that order, so this picks up a lot of unintended content.

Fred Jawa @fredjawa.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
The actual grouping works just fine. How it assigns the groups is pretty silly. It decided to do a very simple brute force check for specific keywords to assign posts to topics. It decided the topics and the relevant keywords itself without any specific input from me. See attached photo.
Screenshot of a coding IDE showing a list of topics and matching keywords. An example topic is "science", with example keywords being like "space" and "biology".

Overall it did pretty well. The code needs some refactoring but it works (and has tests). The site looks bad on mobile. The biggest gap is the thing I find funniest about the whole experience, which was that I asked it to include a "group by topic" functionality, which it did.

I fixed a few other things (free credits ran out). It had done the loading function for saved posts vs liked posts completely differently, where liked posts had no pagination (so it was only loading the first 100). Saved posts loaded everything.

Fred Jawa @fredjawa.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
Some things it fixed on its own. The biggest issue: saved posts weren't loading at all. I prompted it a few times to fix the issue, but nothing was working. Finally, I looked at the code myself. It was using an outdated package that didn't have the required function, just needed a version bump.

I didn't set up any extra configs beyond just downloading Antigravity (wanted to see how it did). The UI is pretty decent. Search/sort/filtering all worked as intended. It did some funny stuff the first time that I had to ask it to fix - it picked a completely random avatar, among other things.

This was largely made with Google Antigravity and Gemini 3.6 Flash (High) until I ran out of free credits. I've been using Cursor and Devin primarily at work with individual tasks, but I wanted a project to experiment with one-shotting a larger (albeit still simple) project. Results were decent!

little atproto/bsky project I threw together over the weekend: SkyVault. I tend to like/save posts to read later and then can't find them because there's no search/filtering/sorting built into bsky natively. Demo here is rough but will work on some improvements if this is useful to anyone else
