I have no idea what to make of Na Hong-jin's HOPE. It's got some truly fantastic action sequences and fun performances, but the final 10 minutes feels like it's been ripped out of a completely different movie.

So upon finally reaching Malenia again in Elden Ring (after around 200+ hours of assorted other playthroughs where I left her be) I've learned two things. 1: I've definitely gotten better at the game overall (unsurprising but nice) 2: Banished Knight Engval is the GOAT.

I continue to be in awe of Abiotic Factor's mastery of tone. It's comedic without getting cute and quippy, then becomes pants-shittingly terrifying and grim as hell, lets you feel badass for a little while, then reminds you that the universe is vast and unknowable and you are but an ant in it.

I think if you needed any more evidence that the cuts are shortsighted and focused on cutting as deep and as fast as possible with little regard for the future, this is pretty definitive. That engine felt like magic in some spots. A colossal waste of talent and resources.
