A woman invites Alex into her apartment and says "I'm so glad you finally came over! You get to meet my fur baby." She holds up the fur baby which is a humanoid infant entirely covered in hair including on it's sunken eyes and mouth. Alex nervously asks "uh, who's the father?" The other woman leans in and responds "FUR."

For those wondering here is the post from Joyce Carol Oates that got under Musk's skin big time
Post by Joyce Carol Oates, author on X that infuriated Elon Musk

"So curious that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciates- scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend's or relative's accomplishment; condolences for someone who has died; pleasure in sports, acclaim for a favorite team; references to history. In fact he seems totally uneducated, uncultured. The poorest persons on Twitter may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the 'most wealthy person in the world."

Trump's Harvard cuts threaten a giant in biomedical research: A database about the tiny fruit fly
This spring, the Trump administration rescinded a grant that maintained FlyBase, a pillar of global basic research, as part of its broader $2.2 billion funding cuts at Harvard.

This is astoundingly incorrect. At conception, everyone is sex-less. Through early development, everyone is female-presenting. Cis XX men exist. Cis XY women exist. Intersex people exist. Trans people exist. This is a blatant attempt at justifying further attacks on body autonomy.
A screen shot of text on white background. The top lines say: (d) “Female” means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell. The word ‘conception’ is highlighted in orange. The bottom lines say: (e) “Male” means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the small reproductive cell. The word ‘conception’ is highlighted in yellow.

Great perspective. There needs to be a paradigm shift in how ‘mechanism’ is defined not only in #devbio but in other fields as well.

Scholastic Book Fairs is ending their segregated book program. We made ourselves heard.
A letter from the Scholastic corporation that reads "Dear Authors and Illustrators,
I want to update you regarding the Book Fairs Share Every Story/Celebrate Every
Voice case.
First, I want to apologize on behalf of Scholastic. Even if the decision was made
with good intention, we understand now that it was a mistake to segregate diverse
books in an elective case. We sincerely apologize to every author,
illustrator, licensor, educator, librarian, parent, and reader who was hurt by our
action. We recognize and acknowledge the pain caused, and that we have broken
the trust of some of our publishing community, customers, friends, trusted partners,
and sta", and we also recognize that we will now need to regain that trust.
This case will be discontinued starting with our next season in January. For the
remaining fairs in the fall, Book Fairs is working on a pivot plan as we speak. We will
find an alternate way to get a greater range of books into the hands of children. We
remain committed

A football player meets with Horror mangaka Junji Ito and says "glad you're here in the USA for football season, Junji Ito. Let me show you how to throw the perfect spiral." The football player throws the football with the perfect spiral. Junji Ito is immediately transfixed. His eyes become replaced with the football spiral. He sweats in fear. We zoom in to a tight close up as the spirals in his eyes become darker and more ragged.
