Top 6 years have been since 2017 and BC has experienced more area burned during 2017-2026(red) than 1950-2016(green)

Another active fire day in BC but what scares me is the lightning forecast. Expect lightning in BC for the next 9 days. It is bone dry in parts of BC so if we see the lightning, we could see many new fire starts. ECMWF lightning density maps for Monday and Tuesday.

What would impress me - an AI strategy that puts possible labour disruption front and centre, that says "this might fuck up labour as we know it; in that event, this is how we will mitigate through *seriously* expanding the welfare state" and also "this is what we actually mean by sovereign"

NSCC was affected by the Houston government’s recent budget cuts, the college’s answer to the deficit from these funding losses was to cut jobs. Yesterday, myself and all my librarian colleagues found out that we were losing our jobs, that there would no longer be librarians at NSCC campuses.

Eby wants to be seen as a problem solver. If he really wants to earn that title on this file, he should not be pausing DRIPA, but rather implementing it. Set a schedule, get it done. If you're just offering BC Conservative Lite on the issue, people are going to vote for the real thing.

DRIPA and land claims are not the same thing. Both are separately important. Neither is the end of the world for the land and mineral rights system in the province, though it is likely true some things need to be handled differently going forward. If nothing changed, it would simply be performative.

Ok same??? (From the california sun newsletter which doesn’t seem to be on bluesky but is great!)
A beautifully plush quail. The text below: The California quail, our state bird, is an exquisitely round creature. Abundant throughout the western half the state, they prefer the ground, scurrying about in large groups that seldom take flight. Stylish black tufts adorn their foreheads, and the feathers across their bellies are arrayed in the colors of a California sunset. A couple weeks ago the photographer Christian Howard captured a great close-up of a quail looking fabulous in Point Reyes National Seashore.

They then deconstruct where/how the LLM got things right or wrong, reflect on it using readings from lit list. In semester 2 of yr 1, focus on it WRT digital text/image analysis & critical information literacy.

I'll keep yelling about it- expertise doesn't scale down! Brains are discrete units! It is much harder, and more expensive, for small institutions to run an OER program on their own. And small institutions have *so much* to contribute to Open pedagogy.

I disagee that ai search only pretends to removes bad friction but removes good friction. Deep search or agentic search gives you far better rankings than conventional ranking. That is removing bad friction. I don't see how it removes good friction unless you enjoy poor recall/precision search.

So some of these tools are useful even if they can't automate the full evidence synthesis retrieval. "They simply aren't worth the new failure modes that the generative layer introduces." But you can just look at ai search ranking & just ignore everything else right if you don't trust the summary?
