Hey everybody, I’m taking the advice of every elected official I’ve ever yelled at who’s said “if you think you could do such a good job why don’t you try running for office”. Schools are super important for all of us, not just those of us with kids in the system, and I’m excited to fight for them.

I've started watching Agatha Christie's Poirot with the kiddo, and never mind trying to explain historical 1930s references, it's even more mind blowing to her that "in the past" a series wasn't cancelled after the first or second season.

I think it’s wild that everybody thinks schools should be open an hour earlier in the winter, apparently. Kids just yearn for darkness I guess, and earlier wake-ups and bedtimes. Can’t foresee any problems here.

My partner went on an 8 day canoe camping trip a few weeks ago, seven days of which were lakes and rivers inaccessible by car. Most nights' camps took them an extra hour to set up, as they had to search for places that weren't burnt down to bare rock.

LRT(or skeet): I don't think MLI should have a shred of credibility, and I definitely don't agree with all of the pundit's thoughts on higher ed, but it's a simple/ clear takedown of why using the H-index to claim EDI is bad is completely incorrect.

My student told me he ran his paper through an AI checker to see if it would get flagged even though he wrote it, and it offered to “humanize” his paper by changing the sentence, “Illicit cocaine use is responsible for many potential adverse cardiovascular events” to “Cocaine is a bad, bad drug”

maybe this goes against what most folks do now in teaching and in conference presentations -- but the more a session involves "active learning" or lots of interaction and engagement with the audience, the less likely I am to attend. I have zero interest in doing an activity in a learning environment

I guess I don't think "non scholarly" extramural speech is a super easy/ clear cut issue, particularly when (pseudo) scholarship & university positions are used to give weight to otherwise unserious and un academic claims, but also I clearly value having the right.
