If you'd like to read the Greenland agreement in English, a PDF is here, on the official Danish website: stm.dk/media/fx1h4f... (In case you missed it, the download link on the Danish site is labelled "Aftalen på engelsk herunder" That may be a little subtweet on the Dansk side.)

The market's verdict on the announcement of Operation Economic Outcast was to shrug its shoulders and act as if no-one said anything of any relevance to anything. Makes you think.
Line chart titled "The White House announced a huge economic offensive against Iran... and global oil markets barely noticed" showing the price per barrel of West Texas Intermediate crude oil from August 19-24, 2026. Despite the announcement, oil prices remained remarkably stable. The front-month WTI contract briefly rose from $84.30 to $87.06 per barrel before settling back to $85.05, nearly unchanged from where it started. December 2026 and December 2027 futures contracts were even more stable, moving minimally within their respective ranges around $81 and $72 per barrel. The market's muted response suggests traders expected limited supply disruption from the economic measures against Iran.

The Supreme Court’s grant of a stay in one of the mail-in ballot cases is deeply wrong, but it’s also not the main event over whether Trump’s patently unlawful executive order can take effect.

Unspeakably disgraceful. Doris Miller was a mess attendant -- the only jobs open to Black sailors -- who won the Navy Cross at Pearl Harbor. With this, and reports USN leaders are considering changing the design of aircraft carriers *because Trump said so* -- the Navy is dishonoring itself.

So far through Trump's second term, 90% of all job growth has accrued to women. (If you want to understand the why, I dig into it here: newsletter.platypuseconomics.com/p/the-pink-c...)
Line chart titled "So far during Trump's second term, 90% of all job growth has gone to women" showing change in nonfarm employment since January 2025. The chart tracks total employment, women's employment, and men's employment in thousands, seasonally adjusted. Women have gained 642,000 jobs while men have added only 74,000 jobs, meaning women account for 90% of total employment growth during this period. Women's employment gains accelerated sharply from 291,000 in January 2026 to 642,000 by June 2026, while men's employment growth remained modest and volatile, including a 96,000 decline in February 2026 and a 44,000 decrease from May to June 2026, creating a striking divergence in labor market outcomes by gender.

I'm not saying it's cause and effect, but I'm also not not saying it. Either way, the manufacturing revival never came.
Line chart titled "The manufacturing revival never came" showing change in manufacturing payrolls since January 2025. Manufacturing employment fell by 75,000 jobs from January 2025 to June 2026, with losses every month through 2025 reaching 93,000 jobs lost by December. A brief recovery in early 2026 after the Supreme Court struck down tariffs proved temporary, with employment remaining 75,000 jobs below the baseline by June 2026, demonstrating no meaningful revival in the sector.

Good thing nobody covered Trump’s 2024 win as a mandate for dramatic policy change & a right-wing vision of America’s future — instead of, say, a close win driven mainly by the price of eggs and gas going up (then back down!) in 2022-23. That would have been irresponsible. Good thing nobody did that

Ben Meiselas: You are seeing in real time why Trump companies went bankrupt so many times. Set aside your politics. This guy is incapable of making a deal or meaningful decision and it follows the same cycle. Big flashy announcement (Epic Fury). Adversity hits (Hormuz closed). Defraud stakeholders (promise two week solution). Freeze up (endless two week cycle loop). Compound the problem (resource depletion). Final chance to save face rejected (what you’re seeing now). Bankruptcy strikes and blame others during chaos. Rinse repeat.
