Teens dressed as deltarune characters Susie, Noel, Kris, and Ralsei. Susie is pink with pink hair and a black tailcoat with no sleeves, and an axe. Blue and green are rare colors for shells (and rare across life in general). A new study finds blue shells may be due to carotenoid pigments, while green is due to structural coloration! (368) www.nature.com/articles/s41598-026-…

It's oct and that means everything is turning pink. I encourage everyone to think before buying products marketed as raising awareness or funds. A better use of time and money are funds sent to research, direct mutual aid to patients, groups like metavivor and national breast cancer foundation ⬇️

So in what is unfortunately now an ~annual~ reminder - the Paleontological Research Institution is not presently affiliated with Cornell and was never a part of Cornell. Some PRI folks have taught students at Cornell, but donating to PRI supports Research and Education, and doesn't support Cornell

My TA let students use AI in lab write up drafts even though my syllabus says not to because of the harm to learning...we talked after but he's in camp"its inevitable/hard to prove"

Everytime we have an all-hands at work and AI comes up, people voice reasonable concerns about a) environment b) data protection c) reliability/accuracy, some executive always says "well it's out of the box now, it's not going away" and .... so? Just bc it exists doesn't mean we have to use it

My own salary came up at my last doctor's appt, and she expressed extreme shock that I make far less than her receptionist. "I thought you made over six figures, you're a scientist!" Yeah, no, not even close! But there's this pervasive idea that science and museums are these well-funded entities.
