🚨 URGENT ACTION ALERT 🚨 This week, Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) funding is on the chopping block. Tell your senators: the transportation bill extension MUST include continued funding for SS4A. Take action NOW: action.bikeleague.org/page/101121/...
Action Alert graphic. A man in an East Coast Greenway cycling jersey holds a sign that says "Bike Lanes Save Lives" next to a bike lane with cyclists riding by. Text overlay: "Urgent: Save Safe Streets and Roads for All Funding. Bikeleague.org/action-center. "Action Alert graphic. White text on a red background: "The Senate has a chance to protect funding for bike lanes and safer roads. They need to hear from you. This week, the Senate will be voting on a short-term extension of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Critically, this proposed extension strips out funding for a key program created in the IIJA: the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.

Safe Streets and Roads for All has made $5 billion over five years directly available to local communities who want to plan for and build safer roads for people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving.

Tell your senators: the continuing resolution must include continued funding for SS4A. Without it, communities will not be able to access critical funding to build safer roads.
TAKE ACTION NOW ⬇️

After @katieporteroc.bsky.social called out Sean Duffy for letting private flights fly while canceling commercial flights, WSJ reports some private flights will be canceled for as long as shutdown lasts (which could be a week, even if the House approves this deal). www.wsj.com/business/air...
The Federal Aviation Administration is slated to limit business jets and other private flights to some of the country’s largest airports to ease strains on air-traffic personnel during the government shutdown.

The restrictions are due to begin Monday and will affect private jet flights at a dozen airports, including Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver and Chicago’s O’Hare, according to the National Business Aviation Association trade group.

The FAA’s plan effectively halts business aviation operations at those airports, the trade group said.

Bicycling is a transportation issue and it's a public health issue. We're a stronger, safer, healthier nation when more people can safely ride their bikes. That's why we're alarmed about reports that the CDC's mission-focused work of preventing chronic disease may be eliminated.

Mother of family camped near a creek bed, panning for gold. "Slept in a bed all my life long till now--sleeping on the ground." Near Redding, California #Redding #California #WorldWarI #DorotheaLange #undefined #photography #DorotheaLange www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2017763029
The image depicts an elderly woman seated outdoors. She is wearing a patterned, sleeveless dress with long sleeves and appears to be wrapped in a shawl or blanket around her shoulders for warmth. Her hair is pulled back from her face into a simple bun on top of her head.

She sits in what looks like a wooden chair that's placed outside near an old vehicle, possibly a truck or farm equipment. The woman holds something small and delicate between her hands with both arms crossed over each other on the laprest of the chair.

The background is somewhat blurred but suggests an outdoor setting with trees or bushes visible behind her. A tent-like structure can be seen partially in view to the left side, indicating a campsite environment possibly during a time when people were engaged in rural activities such as panning for gold which was common around Redding California. The overall atmosphere conveys a sense of simplicity and hardship associated with living through tough times.

The black-and-white photograph gives it an aged appearance, suggesting that the picture might have been taken several decades ago, potentially during or shortly after World War I when Dorothea Lange captured such images as part of her work documenting various social issues.

18 years ago, Canada’s oldest national newspaper, the Globe and Mail (which tends to be centre-right), published this issue on climate science, impacts, and solutions. The editor-in-chief’s letter was titled “The environment will be the single most important issue of 2007.”
The cover of the Globe and Mail newspaper on Saturday, January 27, 2007. The headline reads “welcome to the new climate,” and it features examples of climate change, including melting ice caps in Greenland, monster wildfires in Australia, January golfers in PEI, ruined fruit crops in California, snowless ski runs in Switzerland, starving polar bears in the north, and devastated trees in Stanley Park, Vancouver. The second page of the newspaper features a letter from the editor in chief, Edward Greenspon, titled “it’s crystal clear: the environment will be the single most important issue of 2007.”
