You gotta hand it to em “WPD lets public safety chairwoman off on obvious DUI the same week the council votes against a police oversight board” would be a really good way to satirize a corrupt municipality

I have read more fiction books this year than I have in the past decade because Hideo Kojima posted about The Tainted Cup and it was so good that I got hooked on fantasy and sci-fi again.

Just finished reading A Trade of Blood by @robertjbennett.bsky.social. Another fascinating mystery in a finely crafted fantasy world, this time featuring commentary on agriculture (beef production in particular) which really resonated with me. I rate this one 🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄 and a 💀.

I'm looking for Providence-Worcester too, especially every time I drive up 146 and see the overpasses labeled "Providence-Worcester RR." Like, OK, but where's my train service? (For that matter, where's hourly bus service?)

Amtrak's recent removal of thruway bus service has made it even worse. Two decently sized cities located close to each other and there's just no transit whatsoever? I don't get it.

It's such a false equivalence. My teachers didn't like Wikipedia because students would use it as a source rather than reading the wiki page's sources and citing those.

The biggest reason given for not adopting ActivityPub in the ATproto paper was that replies could be missing on threads on AP. The ATmosphere now has just a few "full participant" nodes (and it's still a bit unclear how much bsky's infra is leaned on), and seems to already be hitting this challenge

unfortunately that seems out of the question for a generation given the new acelas and airos, though, right? iirc the acela order left the door open for 12 car sets, but idk how many cars the airos can support. 8 car sets seem an odd choice when 9/10 car NERs are common.

he is actually good imo but hasn't done anything interesting in a long time. his drumming on the fury of the aquabats album is incredible. compare that to all the "collabs" he does now where he phones in some basic pop punk beat.

debuting as part of @aftermath.site's hater week, here's my list of (so far) over 50 video game studios that are rejecting generative AI, each with their rationale for doing so
D-CELL Games
Games: Unbeatable

Steam page

“Even if I’m just looking at this in the cold mercenary MBA freak way—the ‘I want to generate income as much as possible’ way—you can’t make a thing people want to buy if the thing you want to buy is the same thing everyone else has. And that’s what you fucking get with AI models. It’s definitionally part of how they work.

So all using [AI] will do is make you compete worse. You have to do laps on a hamster wheel to arrive at the opposite conclusion. Because the only way to actually make money on this shit besides a pump-and-dump is to be the guy selling the shovels. And even the shovels are starting to rust.

Even the stuff that sounds good or looks good for a given value of ‘good’ (i.e. it convincingly looks at a glance like it wasn’t generated with a machine, it’s ‘professional’) is only capable of spitting out inputs that existed before. You can feel it in the ‘choices’ it makes, because it doesn’t make choices; it chooses a value with a weight given by a model patched from every work at once on fast forward. The nutritional value of AI work is approximately identical to watching a 2000s horror movie trailer compilation at 4X speed while second-screening Maury transcriptions. It might be fun to look at, but it will kill you on the inside."
